About Calico Theory

Dirty White Lies delivers an honest, truthful, heart on your sleeve type of American songwriting that you’ve likely sworn was gone for good. Rest assured, great American music did not die with Glenn Frey, it’s still alive, but you won’t find it on the radio and you won’t see it on a shelf at Target. You’ll find it deep in the mountains of southwest Virginia where Dirty White Lies are reviving the classic rock n roll sound that we all know and love. Sage Cameron Greer’s lyrics seem to come from a place far below the surface and well beyond his years. Introspective, genuine and always personal, Greer invites us into his life of love and loss, confusion and clarity, future and past and wraps it all up in a simple yet powerful way that we can all connect with. This is brought to life by the rustic, chain-smoker like voice of Johnny Sword. He sings with the kind of charm and emotion that is rarely seen in today’s generation of artists. Sword is a true artist and performer that you’ll have to see live to fully appreciate. Jordon Yates on Drums and Evan Pease on bass hold the rhythm section together. Jordon’s wildly entertaining, Bombastic style of drumming gives the band an incredible level of power and even a sense of unexpected aggression. Yates’ tenor voice is also a crucial signature to the Dirty White Lies harmony sound. Pease is the wildcard of the group. His quirky, yet laser-focused basslines add a completely unique feel to the band’s music. A perfect compliment to Yates, Pease locks in and creates an unbreakable foundation for the others to build upon. The very first time that Dirty White Lies ever played together, they wrote their self-titled EP (available via Spotify) in its entirety. The immediate connection between the four was undeniable and created surprisingly great results practically instantly. The band quickly traveled to Echo Mountain Studios in Asheville NC and tracked the EP live, straight to two inch tape. Looking back, the EP was a great experience and taught the band a lot about themselves. The biggest lesson learned being that the songs on the EP didn’t represent the band’s vision as a whole or even as individuals. With newly found clarity, the band has now completed writing for their first full length record and will begin recording this winter. As for the new material, you can expect hints of Tom Petty, Jackson Browne, Bob Dylan, The Eagles…but all with a darker, bourbon soaked vibe. Dirty White Lies has shared the stage with many well-known artists such as Saving Abel, Billy Bob Thornton, Adelita's Way, James Durbin, Smile Empty Soul, Faster Pussycat, Saliva, and more.
