Yellabird

Sometimes the most chance of meetings can yield the most promising results. That was certainly the case for guitarist/vocalist Martin Stubbs and drummer Felipe Gaviria of Yellabird. Introduced in 2011 by a mutual friend, the two Northeastern grads quickly began collaborating on a hard-rocking, bare-bones rock duo, and soon wrote and recorded their debut EP as Yellabird, 2012’s Mountainosaurus. Blending Southern-rock grit with heavy blues-metal swagger, Mountainosaurus put Yellabird firmly on the map of the vibrant Boston scene, gaining stellar press attention from publications such as Under the Gun Reviews and the Deli Magazine. Following the video release of “Darlin, Sugar” from their Live at the Barn series, and a string of Boston shows, Yellabird kept trucking, releasing “Dixie” from Live at the Barn, and recording the follow-up to Mountainosaurus, 2013’s Little Brother, with help from guest drummer Ben Hughes of Sand Reckoner. With the return of Gaviria from Austin, Yellabird release Little Brother to high critical acclaim with a show at the Middle East Upstairs in Cambridge. Described by Infectious Magazine as a “band that epitomizes the essence of rock ‘n roll,” Yellabird take their already-heavy sound and give it a major boost in volume and intensity on Little Brother. Since then, they have been making their hard-earned rounds, gaining radio play and fans outside of the Northeast, playing their first show in New York, and starting work on a new EP in the mountains of northern Pennsylvania. Yellabird are poised to make a big splash in 2014, with a new EP, and plans for more videos, shows, and special releases in the works leading up to and after the 35th Annual Rock N Roll Rumble.
