The current holders of the flame have come together over the last seven years; sinuous bass player Dave Sturt joined just as the album 2032 was shown to the world; Ian ‘Eastwinds’ East was the next to blow in through the portal; Fabio Golfetti brought his guitars from Brazil (after working with Daevid for many years); Kavus Torabi appeared to Daevid in a vision; Cheb Nettles just sort of turned up.
GONG's musically diverse world includes shades of psychedelia, space rock, jazz, avant-garde, krautrock and surreal soundscapes.

Not been to the venue before, although I've wanted to for a while. The band were sadly down to a four-piece due to family issues for their regular front man, but the performance was great all the same and well supported by Butterfly Wheel, too, who it was nice to see stuck around in the audience for Gong's show 🙂
A lot of the material was from the excellent recent 'Bright Spirit', but it was the oldies near the end of the show that really got us 'oldies' in the audience going (which was quite funny in itself - I hope the venue had a defibrillator on hand!)
I hope the rest of the tour goes well and that Kavus' family concerns resolve well too. Hoping to catch another night of the tour soon 🤞
