About Soundstill
Soundstill is a hard rock band made up of four individuals with one common goal: write music that is creative, genuine, and most importantly interesting. The members are vocalist Chris Adams, guitarist Josh Cother, bassist Terry Justice, and drummer Tyler Hoekstra. Their latest album, Vital Revival, ranges from edgy alternative to hard rock anthems, with spliced-in moments of metalcore, only to slam it all back down with a pop flavored rock ballad. "I wanted to write an album about love and all the complexities that surround it," Adams states. " What came out was heavy and somewhat sad love songs." The first three albums would be classified as more progressive rock with an alternative metal twist. The song writing has been primarily shared between Cother and Justice for many years now. During the last two albums, Cother and Justice switch back and forth from guitar to bass to give them a more diverse platform for their writing styles.
The inception of Soundstill was planted in the tourist town of Okoboji, Iowa during the year of 2006. In the wake of cover bands flooding their area venues, they decided that they weren't about to become a cover band themselves. Through that choice, they were challenged to convince venues they could bring a crowd while playing original music. Fast forward to early 2009, Soundstill dropped their debut album Leading The Fallen, and with their local success, they have had the honor to share the stage with such bands as Papa Roach, Sick Puppies, and Saving Abel. In 2011, they released their sophomore EP album American Disease, and had the single "Social Zombie" playing on numerous radio stations across Iowa. By the time 2013 came around, they decided to make a move that some would say was risky and began to build their own recording studio, which helped them with scheduling and budget issues. This in turn allowed Soundstill to create their 3rd album titled Before the Sunset Ends, in December 2014. "I think the majority of fans of metal will enjoy what these guys bring to the table. The band can go from really heavy to sensibly poppy and sometimes in between."- Ted Rogen of The Even Ground.
In July 2017, Soundstill digitally released their 4th album Vital Revival. "When it came to Before The Sunset Ends, it really was a defining accomplishment for us," says Adams, "With Vital Revival we had to show the world what we learned and how we decided to grow as musicians on this album." Throughout the years, there have been many influences from the music universe, but bands like Deftones, Slipknot, Korn, Mastodon, Tool, Papa Roach, and Nine Inch Nails have had the most influence over their writing style. One ideal that seems to resonate with all the members is that their music should always be allowed to change and morph into something new, something unheard of, but still enticing enough to captivate their fans.
