About Kristina Aglinz
Kristina is a jazz singer of Armenian-Polish-Russian origin. Since day 1 she was surrounded by music, as her father was a professional trombone player. Sergey Aglintsian toured the world with the ‘Armenia’ Jazz Orchestra led by Konstantin A. Orbelian (whose nephew – one of the celebrated musical dynasty - San-Francisco born, Juilliard graduate, world-renowned conductor and pianist Constantine Orbelian was just appointed NYC Opera’s Music Director and Principal Conductor). It was a unique opportunity in the Soviet times to be able to travel without borders – and over the Atlantic. Kristina was much impacted by the stories (and the jazz vinyls) her Father brought from abroad afar. A JVC record player – another rarity (and luck!) appeared early in the Aglinz family, and little Kristina was infatuated by the music of Al Jarreau, Herbie Hancock and Boney M.
Today Kristina lives in Los Angeles: the city is a colossal source of inspiration and a driver for her perpetual creative development. ‘I sense LA on the audio level, and there are so many amazing musicians here, so many triggers for innovation and taking further steps in music”, - says Kristina. LA was also her first American city back in 1998 when Kristina won The World Championship of Performing Arts in the US. She was awarded Over-All Grand Champions of the World title and received the contest’s Gold Medal in the Jazz Vocal Nomination. Soon after, the president of the contest, Mr. Griff O'Neil, invited her to become a VIP member of the jury of this prestigious international competition.
Aglinz has already come into attention of some music bigs. Mr. Jorge Calandrelli, a six-time Grammy Award and two-time OSCAR Award nominee, produced Kristina’s first solo album for international audience. “Kristina Aglinz is not only outstanding singer but a really superb concert pianist and musician”, he said. Calandrelli is known for productions for Sting, Barbara Streisand, Celine Dion, Yo-Yo Ma, Tony Bennett, and many more.
Famous 10 time Grammy Award trumpet player Arturo Sandoval called Aglinz “an incredible Artist, singer but she is incredible classical pianist also.”
No wonder. Aglinz received a professional classical education in The Gnessin Academy of Music in Moscow, as a pianist. In 2016 Aglinz organized the UltraMuzika Festival in the Great Hall of the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory and performed the Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 23 in A Major. Soon after that, Aglinz founded her record label – UltraMuzika Records).
Aglinz sings with an essentially distinctive voice. Her style is a mix of classical, jazz and modern music which she takes to a new height of brilliance. The shows at the BAKED POTATO will feature both jazz standards and the works composed by Kristina. So, it’s a lot about fusion. “But in the end, - says Kristina, - the core in my musical collaboration, in my performance is – having fun. It’s important for me that my co-musicians experience a real joy playing together in the moment. And it’s, definitely, the light that, I hope, infills my music.” This is especially significant in our challenging times, in the post-pandemic world, where so many musicians and creatives are still recovering after the unprecedented isolation in the lockdown. ‘I feel that the enormous art renaissance is awaiting us after these controversial year+ behind our shoulders. And I’m determined to contribute as much as I can to it. Let’s bring the beautiful energy of creation, of performance back to stage’, - concludes Kristina.
