About Matt Ellis
Matt Ellis is an independent, award-winning, Americana Singer/Songwriter
from Sydney, Australia. Based in L.A. since 2005, he’s just released his sixth album.
Matt's sound is a blend of Rock, Country, and Folk reminiscent of Tom
Petty, Neil Young, and Jason Isbell. He sits comfortably on the Rock end of
the Americana genre, although his roots are firmly planted in Australian
Pub and Garage Rock.
His music has taken him across the U.S.A, Canada, Australia, Hong Kong and
Mexico, sharing stages with Calexico, Paul Kelly, Kasey Chambers, The
White Buffalo, DeVotchKa, and LeAnn Rimes. Tracks have been licensed in the
U.S. by ABC, LMN, MTV, Qantas, and The Food Network while receiving airplay
on dozens of Radio Stations around the globe. Matt's signature song,
"Heart Of Mine", recently made its cinematic debut on James Franco's "Hey
Day Of The Insensitive Bastards" alongside Natalie Portman.
“The Greatest Escape”, Matt's 5th album, was released late October 2014.
By December, the album was the second most added new release to Americana
Radio, sharing the position with the T-Bone Burnett Produced “Lost on the
River: The New Basement Tapes”. Matt and his band promoted the release
with slots on the Abbot Kinney Fest in L.A., Desert Stars Festival at
Pappy & Harriets in Joshua Tree, The L.A. Vegan Beer Fest at The Rose
Bowl, The Texas Crawfish Festival, Houston and club dates around L.A. Matt
followed up with acoustic shows in New York, San Francisco, Tucson and The
Americana Festival in Nashville throughout 2015. "Greyhound 89", a
celebrated track from the album will make its major label debut this
year, with the Warner France compilation celebrating 45 years of the RTL
Radio Show, "Les Nocturnes". Hand-picked by DJ, Georges Lang, the song
joins a list of rock royalty including The Stones, Hendrix, Dylan, and
more.
