About Blackkiss

Blackkiss actually came into fruition back in late 2006 when I wrote my very first song called "Burning", which was about a dream I had about waking up in the middle of armageddon. A very good friend of mine believed in me so much that she bought me an epiphone guitar, which became the guitar that I wrote all my songs on. As a child I was raised on that Navajo Indian Reservation and taught the old traditional ways of my people. At a very young age our family was hit with a major catastrophic tragedy and I was sent to live with my grandmother deep in the heart of the reservation. My time there was a helluva an experience. I spent so much time attending ancient traditional ceremonies and hearing from the old ones about the mythologies of the Navajo. So Blackkiss actually began back then when I spent nights listening to the old ones sing the songs of old. I would listen to the stories behind the songs and be amazed by grand picture they would paint for my imagination. From such a young age I already had an ear for Johnny Cash, the Man in Black. His voice just drew me in and his style reminded me of the storytelling singing that the Indian elders would do. Blackkiss initially started as a Heavy Metal band in 2006. After I had recorded my first demo I passed it out and it actually landed in the hands of a Japanese brother of mine who contacted me about joining my band. So we met other musicians and started down the Metal path. Nonetheless, we fell apart and went our seperate ways. I continued with my band and began as a solo act. Luckily, I met a dude who would help me in more ways than one, my brother Chris Aguilar. After so many years of me being on the road, chasing jobs all over the country, spending time in jail, I finally came back to Salt Lake City in 2010. After a year or so I began writing and playing once again. Then in 2012 my brother Chris asked me if I wanted to record a demo in his little studio and the rest followed. Blackkiss will always be about the down and out, the beaten down, the outcasts, those who are overlooked or bullied. It was born on the Navajo reservation and that's what I bring to the city; the sounds of the desert. - Pete Sands Blackkiss is a desert born movement, raised from the ashes of all the bridges burned. Fronted by the fearless Pete Sands, a Navajo drifter with songs.
