Nick Lowe

Had a great evening with Nick Lowe and Los Straitjackets performing in Sportmen's Park. Nick playing a lot of well known songs from his backcatalogue along with some more recent stuff. Good atmosphere in the crowd and on stage and a big applause for all the volunteers and crew. After the show Nick walked through the audience and did a couple of autographs and photos. Always nice to shake hands with performers, also had a small chat with one of the Los Straitjackets: great band too! Grabbed a copy of the setlist (not all the songs played were on it, I wrote them down during the show so I could compare). First encore was done by the band alone and the did 'Venus' from my fellow Dutchmen (and Woman Mariska Veres) Shocking Blue! I posted the full setlist on www.setlist.fm

Still a great showman, Lowe played a wide variety of his best stuff and the Los Straitjackets did not disappoint. The combination of guitars and catchy tunes made for an enjoyable night. Great show and I can't wait for them to return to my town!

Nick and Los Straightjackets were great (as usual). They got the audience really pumped, music was just awesome and Nick sounded great. We had just seen them a few months ago at the Club Atlantis in DC and the vibe there was a little different - more pumped up - I think because the Atlantis and the Birchmere have atmospheres that are very different from each other. The Birchmere is like rock and roll dinner theater - I think that's exactly what the Smithereens called it one year that they were there. There aren't seats at Atlantis - it's same vibe as the original 9:30 club and it's more interactive and intimate. Los Straightjackets are always awesome, I love that we get to hear them play a few songs without Nick. They have that Southern California surfing style - like D**k Dale and it just reminds me of being there. It's wonderful to see Nick Lowe still touring, it brings back a lot of memories from Rockpile and all the music since then. I hope we have many more opportunities with Nick.

i’ll go 5 stars, sure. not a huge nick fan, but always dug him. pure pop with some real depth thrown in just because he’s a serious guy. tight band, good sound, nick did a lovely quiet solo version of alison as a final closer. the boy is lookin’ fit happy and he’s in good vocal form. glad i showed up!

Great show following the Mardi Gras parade right outside the venue. I hope tonight he plays more Rockpile and a few more faves including I Love the Sound of Breaking Glass and So It Goes. Nick if you’re reading this, thank you!

Awesome show! I brought and introduced my 30 something year old daughter to Nick (the Jesus of Cool) and crew. She loved it! 40+ years of playing musical magic and Nick is still selling out shows (PDX, 2 nights in a row).

To be able to enjoy an hour and a half of Pure Pop for Now People at an intimate venue such as the Troubadour performed by a living legend was a rare occasion. Nick Lowe, with backing band Los Straitjackets tore through a set list encompassing Lowe's almost 50 year career. All of Lowe's eras were showcased: power pop, jangly countrybilly, jazz tinged countrypolitan and his return to rock with the Straitjackets, who performed a surf guitar instrumental set, before Lowe returned for the second half of his set. This was the second show of a two night stand at the Troubadour as Lowe and Los tour the US in support of their recent release Indoor Safari.

A brilliant show from Nick and Los Straitjackets. 90 minutes of wonderful songs, played exceptionally well, with minimal fuss and maximum professionalism. A real privilege to be in a small venue to listen to a legend who, as always, gives his audience exactly what they crave: songs that are always sharp, sometimes melancholy, but unfailingly brilliant.

Another GREAT show by Nick and Los Straighjackets. He hasn't lost a step in all the years he has been performng. This was my first time at the Bowery Ballroom, and it is a small venue that brings everyone very close to the stage.

Nick Lowe is arguably the most talented, entertaining and genuinely likeable Musician/Songwriters you'll ever see ..... a National Treasure !! Combine that with one of the best venues to see a band in the UK and you've got a night to remember.

This was on my 'bucket list' of acts to see. Nick Lowe was one of the first 'new' acts I was getting into as I had just turned 13 that year. His 'Cruel to Be Kind' was the song that 'started' things off. The post-punk revolution was taking over, the Eighties with these influences along with new wave, glam metal, hip-hop, were all emerging and the dumbbell disco duck deluge was heading straight to the dumpster where it belongs. Many of the great Nick Nuggets were played, this was one show where you knew all the songs and coasted along for the pleasant ride through the memories. I had seen (and briefly met) Los Straitjackets at the local Rumba Club a few years earlier that decade so I already knew they're good. Nick picked a terrific backing band for his tour, and it was cool of him to let them showcase their talents a couple of times with brief sets (they're a surf/instrumental band on their own). In the wake of the demise of several of my favorite stars and bands (esp. the ones I grew up) - Motorhead (saw them in 1996) followed by David Bowie and Prince (never got to see them), I went on a blitzkrieg of concerts of music acts that stand out and played important 'soundtracks' to my life; incl. ZZ Top, X, Phil Collins, Front 242, Brian Wilson, George Clinton, Little River Band, Cheap Trick, Bryan Ferry, Bruce Springsteen, (Jeff Lynne's) ELO, Heart, Sting + Peter Gabriel (together!), Kool and the Gang and so many others. Then in 2020 we had to deal with the Covid pandemic and unrest. And many of my favorite musical acts (incl. some that I've seen before) are gone. Seeing Nick Lowe during the autumn of 2019 brought things a bit full circle for me music wise and I was happy to catch his show, with Los Straitjackets with him. I'm glad I got to see this rock'n'roll super trooper who has highlighted a good portion of my life. It was unforgettable and wonderful.

As usual, Nick and Los Straitjackets were great. I see them every time they come to the Philly area.I do wish they would change the set list. It seems it has been the same for the last few years and Nick has sooooo many other songs he could perform. It was rewarding to see that the audience was so enthusiastic of the performance that they “ refused “to leave after the first encore. Nick seemed genuinely appreciative of this reaction and came out and did a solo rendition of Alison …… always worth the price of admission

Show was great. The guy just keeps on…….and it seems he really enjoys himself playing live after all these years. Los Straitjackets with their routine excellent performance. The whole scene is infectiously uplifting and you leave with a smile (do wish he had sung an acoustic version of Alison; alternate version of Heart of the City was a delight).

I have been a big fan of both Nick Lowe and Elvis Costello since the late '70s. I was fortunate to be at their concert in Woodinville, WA on June 9, 2023 and had a wonderful (if damp) time. Near the end of the concert, Elvis Costello broke into (What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love, and Understanding. I fully expected Nick Lowe (the writer of that particular song) to come and join his friend for a rousing finale. But, alas, no such duet was forthcoming. Nevertheless, I good time was had by all.

What a wonderful evening from beginning to end! The venue was top notch and seeing Nick Lowe perform live was a rare thrill. He is in fine form and sounded better than ever. What a stellar presence he is. His backing band Los Straitjackets rocked the house with skill and a sense of fun. And when Mr. Lowe joined Elvis Costello for 3 songs at the end, there wasn't a dry eye on my face.

I was a bit disappointed in the show. Nick wasn't on long enough, and the sound in the shed was terrible. The people in charge of the sound board figured it out for the Mavericks' performance, but I was there to hear Nick!

One of the most underrated singer songwriters in recent years in my view, and he never disappoints whether solo or with a band. Songs are all short & sweet, with a variety of styles and stories with some pure genius twists. He does a lot more singing than talking, but still manages some good tales and wicked wit. Great venue too at the old music hall in Leeds. The man's a legend and if you don't have at least a couple of his songs in your all-time top 50 there's something wrong. Check out his stuff with Brinsley Schwarz & Rockpile and the full catalogue of solo work ...... there's something for everyone !!

What a superb show, Nick gave us nearly all of his well known back catalogue, from Brinsley Schwarz, through Rockpile, to his solo stuff. I’d never seen him perform with Los Sraitjackets before, these guys are entertainers and brilliant musicians. Peace, Love and Understanding

Nick’s still got it and a back catalogue to be proud of. Also, if it wasn’t for the beautiful white hair, he looks like a man half his age. The addition of los Straitjackets was inspired - they can truly play! Surf version of My Love will Go On really works. Best thing was the declared intent to entertain which was delivered to the maximum! What a fun gig. Shame about the new laws limiting encores....

First time seeing Nick Lowe since PPFNP (Jesus of Cool) was released. He is very engaging and obviously loves what he does. Los Straitjackets are a good complement. They seem like they can play anything-well. Great, but expensive venue.
