About Vasko Dukovski

Vasko Dukovski, is a New York based multi-instrumentalist virtuoso and diverse stylistic performer of the highest caliber, one of the most-sought-after instrumentalist in his generation. A master of the clarinets, Dukovski also plays Saxophones, Armenian Duduk, Balkan Pan Pipes, Bag Pipes, Chinese Hu Lu Si and various Middle-Eastern percussion instruments. An avid performer and advocate of Avant-Garde Free Style and Contemporary classical music, Dukovski has collaborated with some of today’s leading composers such as John Corigliano, John Adams, Gunther Schuller, Yehudy Weiner, Georg Friedrich Hass, Helmut Lachenmann, Philippe Hurel, George Lewis and many others. In the past six years, Dukovski has commissioned and inspired over a dozen new works written for him and premiered over one hundred new compositions with some of the worlds most respected ensembles for new music such as; Bang on A Can All Stars, Either/OR Ensemble, Talea Ensemble, Mimesis Ensemble, Wet Ink, ECCE-East Coast Contemporary Ensemble, Argento New Music Ensemble, Lost Dog, Future In Reverse F.I.RE, AXIOM Ensemble, New Juilliard Ensemble, Grneta Ensemble, Ensemble 212, The Attacca Quartet and VOXARE Quartets among others. Even though classically trained at the prestigious Juilliard School, Dukovski sees no boundaries in music and musical styles, but embraces all of it. In addition of being a front man of his world music quartet Tavche Gravche, he is a member of the Benn Stap and the Zozimos, LPR Ensemble, Parias Ensemble, Grneta Ensemble and Amniotic Fluid. Dukovski has shared the stage with Gladys Night, Marcel Khalife, Christiane Karam, Binka Dobreva, Aleksandar Raichev, Jonathan Batiste, The New York Gypsy All-Stars Band, Slavic Soul Party, Derya Koroglu, Olafur Arnalds and many others. Dukovski’s musical sophistication spans the continents, appearing in Macedonia, Bulgaria, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia, Austria, Lebanon, Morocco, Brazil, South Africa, Tunisia, extensively in China and throughout the United States and on a regular basis in New York City. His numerous competition prizes and awards include: First Prize at the International Woodwind Competition in Stara Zagora, Bulgaria; Special Prize at the Jeunnese Musicales Clarinet Competition in Bucharest, Romania; 2nd Prize at the National Clarinet Competition, 3rd Prize at the National Chamber Music Competition in Macedonia, 3rd Prize at the Andreas Makris Clarinet Competition in Fort Collins, Colorado; First Prize at the 2010 Arriaga Chamber Music Competition-Grneta Ensemble, Winner of the 2013 Bob Stewart Tuba competition held at the 37th Duke Ellington Jazz Festival-Benn Stapp and the Zozimos and an Honors Award from the Eubie Blake Foundation in New York. Dukovski's TV and Radio appearances began from an early age at his town’s local TV and Radio stations and since then he has appeared on FOX News, Turkish National Radio and TV Station, Brazilian National TV Station, Tunisian National TV Station, China’s National TV Station, Tian Jin TV Station, National Public Radio and WQXR. Dukovski has recorded for Naxos American Classics, Albany Records, Sono Luminus- Dorian, Tzadik, Chicken Madness, In a Circle Records, Furious Artisans, and Parma Records. Born in Ohrid, in the Republic of Macedonia, Dukovski began playing with sound at age five and started his musical education at the age of eight. His dedication to music and the clarinet earned him a Fine Arts Award from the Interlochen Arts Academy, which he attended before earning a Bachelors and a Masters at the Julliard Schools of Music.
