About Northside
Northside are a band from Manchester, England that borrowed heavily from the Madchester scene of the time. Formed in 1989, they released their only album Chicken Rhythms on Factory Records in 1991. The band became known for their ecstatic live shows.
With its opening gambit, LSD, their single, "Shall We Take A Trip" was held by many as a symbol of the Madchester scene. It served up spangly psychedelia and shuffling beats. The track was banned by the BBC for its many references to drugs. It eventually broke into the top 50 in the UK charts. Interestingly though, on 6th May 2006, BBC 6 Music played this song in its entirity on the Marc Riley Show in mid afternoon. This possibly shows how things have moved on in 15 years.
Band members are Warren Dermody (Vocals) Timmy Walsh (Guitar) Cliff Oiger (Bass) and Paul Walsh (Drums) with Danny Yates (Guitar) Paul Ankers (Guitar) and Dean Dermody (Drums) replacing the original line up some years later.
