About Monastery
Monastery is an ambient experimental project that merges visual art and text with the hope of creating an immersive listening experience. It is partly a platform for Seraphim House/+1476+ founder Robb Kavjian to explore sounds outside of the 'rock band' setting but it is also an opportunity to showcase the works of his favorite visual & literary artists as well as his own art & writings. Having always strongly felt that the text, visuals, and presentation of an album are just as important as the actual music, Monastery is the alchemy of blending & balancing these elements to create a rich, atmospheric, and meditative pilgrimage. The first full length, Peculiar Storms, is comprised of six pieces accompanied by original prose & poetry and is accompanied by the paintings/illustrations of Norwegian artist Theodor Kittelsen. The music utilizes elements of new age, drone, world/folk, and field recordings of nature & storms. Combining lush soundscapes with the moodiness of the art and the ambiguity of the text, the album serves as a drift off point to abstract and surreal landscapes. A dark room and headphones are highly recommended! Monastery seeks to facilitate escape to more haunting and dreamier worlds than the one we're all in. Peculiar Storms is set to be released in March 2014 on CD and 180gr vinyl w/ digital download. Dreamscapes For Solitude & The Facilitation Of Escape.
