This was what you can expect from Wreckless Eric.....the unexpected. Don't go to see him hoping for 'all the old stuff' , this guy has never been one for relying on his early material. I respect that. It was a classic gig, in its own way. Eric was as irritated by the chit chat from the back of the hall as I was and he made that clear. Plenty of anecdotes between the songs. Hard to understand why it wasn't sold out. Oh yes, he did play Whole Wide World.

Superb show, not many artists put quite so much into a performance, and genuinely funny anecdotes between numbers. It’s a shame that there weren’t more people attending to witness such a brilliant gig, originally planned for the main room, it took place in the front bar, which made for a very intimate performance. Hope we don’t have to wait another 38 years for the next Australian tour.

I would pay to just listen to this man talk. he is so funny and so on topic. The awesome music he plays is just an added bonus. Definitely go see this man. He plays beautiful Post Punk music.

About Wreckless Eric
Wreckless Eric (born Eric Goulden on May 18, 1954 in East Sussex, England) was part of the pub-rock scene before he became one of the earliest artists to be signed to Stiff Records. Even as a singer-songwriter with a distinct singing voice, his records failed to chart but his live shows were his main successes, winning him a faithful audience to whom he continues to play to this day.
Interest in Wreckless Eric's music was renewed with the inclusion of the song "Whole Wide World" on the soundtrack to the movie "Stranger Than Fiction" (2006). The movie features a scene where the leading man (played by Will Ferrell) sings the song while he strums timidly on his guitar.
The same song also appeared in "Me Without You" a few years earlier.
