About Miles East

“A sparkling debut . . . I love this songwriter!”
–No Depression

“Haunting.”
–Vents Magazine

“This record is serious business. Great songs (with) introspective lyrics.”
–One Track Mine

“His sound completely his own…sharing a likeness to James Taylor, Duncan Sheik and Ray LaMontagne.”
–Dan’s Papers

Miles East’s highly-anticipated second album ‘Between Lightning and Thunder’ is a voyage through the dark waters of a relationship in crisis. Some songs serve as distant beacons of light guiding the voyager through that darkness, while others are the dark water itself, portending imminent danger or its ever-present threat. The voyage begins with a promise couched in desperate optimism, and ends with a redemption profound in its quiet simplicity.

Recorded and produced by acclaimed artist/producer Blake Morgan, ‘Between Lightning and Thunder’ navigates a sonic landscape mapped by the longitude and latitude of Beck’s ‘Sea Change’ and Paul McCartney’s ‘Ram.’ Its songs summon recollections of Iron & Wine, Ray LaMontagne, and Jason Isbell.

Of the album’s lead single, “Better Than Here” (out October 17), East says, “It’s an ode to the boldness of buoyancy and hope, and to the promises we make to those we love when weathering dark forces.”

Following more than a decade atop New York City’s recording scene as a premiere session and touring drummer, Miles East (vocals, acoustic guitars, drums), was joined in the studio only by Morgan (bass, electric guitars, keyboards, backing vocals) and musical-polymath, arranger, and producer Justin Goldner (electric guitars, baritone) for this new record. “Blake and I have worked in the studio together countless times––as we did on my first record,” explains East. “But we wanted to add a new flavor to the stew this time with Justin, who is as accomplished and stunning a musician as you’ll ever have the privilege to meet. The resulting aural stew, its scope, and depth, is an exquisitely rich one rendered by only us––three musicians.”

East’s first album ‘Ghosts of Hope’ was heralded as “A sparkling debut” by No Depression, and “Haunting,” by Vents Magazine. ‘Between Lightning and Thunder’ arrives in early 2024, with lead single “Better Than Here” out October 17th on ECR Music Group.
