About Dan billu

Dan Billu is a singer/songwriter and producer based in Berlin; Originally from Tel-Aviv and currently working on his second solo album.
His first solo album "new haircut" was released at the beginning of 2012 after 6 years of ongoing work. The album was received with some very good reviews on various media outlets and on the Israeli musical web press..
The songs on the album were written as a summation of a certain period in his life. The album is basically a personal story and has a very intimate atmosphere despite the musical complexity and the rich arrangements in it. Many different styles and influences can be heard on the album; from folk and alternative music, through progressive and psychedelic rock all the way to jazz and classical music. Dan produced and arranged the album by himself, in his own studio in Tel Aviv playing most of the instruments (guitars, bass, drums, banjo, Ukulele, piano, glockenspiel and some electronics). He also invited many artists to participate and contribute their talent to the album, resulting in 15 co-musicians playing in this album. He established his 8 person ensemble and started touring all over Israel including some festivals and opening acts for bands from abroad.
After two years of concerts he decided to move to Berlin, where he started producing his new album. Due to his growing interest in electronic music, the second album will contain a new side, adding some electronic bass lines, synths and beats to the rich acoustic arrangements.
At the beginning of 2015 he began to work on the soundtrack for the Israeli documentary film "Marrying an Ice Cream Factory". The film was produced for the major TV channel "Yes-Docu" and also took part in the important israeli film festival "DocAviv".
From 2003 to 2011, he worked with his band "Mr. Heavy & Ms. Low" (along with Nadi Billu and Maya Rilov) in which he played bass, guitar and banjo. The band issued its debut album "Woke up in a Midget" in 2003. The album received some very good reviews and the band began to establish its position as one of the leading bands of the Tel Aviv Indie music scene. In 2008, after a lot of work, the band's second album "Cellar Door" was released. Once again the reviews were amazing and after a short time the band went on tour which lasted about a year. The band never officially broke up but a third album was never made and the band has stayed inactive for the last four years.
Furthermore, Dan was a member of the band "Dysfunctional Heroes" (along with Tzvika Frosh, Nadi Billu and Amir Waisman). The band was active for just one year and recorded one album, "Past Simple" in 2009. The band broke up in the middle of 2010, after a year of preforming in Tel Aviv.
During the last 15 years Dan has taken part in many other projects, playing a variety of instruments, performing at hundreds of live concerts and recording sessions, as well as composing for other artists.
