DTL was great! I only wished that I could hear Laura’s vocals better. They were mostly buried under the guitar. I asked the sound guy about it but he said if he turned her vocals up it would also turn up the snare drum.

About Down the Lees

Down the Lees is a powerhouse post-noise-rock trio led by Laura Lee Schultz. What began as Schultz’s solo project in Vancouver transformed into a dynamic band while based in Belgium, eventually finding its home in the Okanagan with Andy Ashley on drums and Chris Carlson on bass. The band’s discography includes multiple albums, an EP, and standout singles, including the critically acclaimed album Bury the Sun, recorded by Steve Albini (Nirvana/The Pixies) in Chicago.

Their latest album, released in May 2024, features the award-winning single Douse, which earned Best Song at the OSIF Awards in Kelowna, BC. Having graced festival stages and performed alongside acts like Brutus, Sparta, Chastity, KEN mode, and Dead Bob, Down the Lees delivers thunderous guitars and driving rhythms, cementing their place as a compelling force in today’s rock scene.

"Down the Lees defy pigeonholing into any genre, unless “powerful and inventive” is now a genre to itself." - Metal Digest Magazine

“A raw and haunting journey through the depths of human emotion and experience. Laura Lee Schultz exposes vulnerability and truth in every line. Prepare to be moved, challenged, and ultimately, deeply affected by the honesty and depth of this release." - Canadian Beats

“One of the most hauntingly heavy slabs of music you’ll encounter all year.” - Get Some Magazine

“Their latest EP, “Dirt” is an interesting, alternative and gritty proof of their tenacity. Produced by Jesse Gander at Raincity Recorders and mastered by Blake Bickel, “Dirt” captures the unpolished, visceral energy of Down The Lees, without loosing its well-thought and interestingly crafter structure. - Idioteq

"Dirty, daring and at times delicate... a wide array of styles collide in this tale of desperation and hardships, with a glimmer of hope. The rhythm section provides the perfect backdrop for Laura’s distorted guitar work and enticing vocals." - Sonic Perspectives
