IATO

Gli IATO nascono nell’estate del 2011, a Quartu Sant’Elena, dalle ceneri degli Ejaculazione.
Rispetto a questi viene mantenuta la medesima formazione, costituita da Lorenzo Balia alla batteria, Giuseppe Piga al basso, Federico Pisano alla chitarra solista e Francesco Nano alla voce e alla seconda chitarra, ma ne viene stravolto il progetto musicale di base: si passa, infatti, dall’hardcore-punk di matrice tutta italiana degli Ejaculazione al metal estremo degli Iato. Le motivazioni che portano il gruppo ad assumere il nuovo nome sono da ricercare anche e soprattutto in questo: IATO è frattura, distanza, un nuovo modo di fare musica rispetto agli Ejaculazione, ma stesse persone. Ma non solo: IATO è la frattura e la distanza che il gruppo percepisce tra se stesso e il contesto circostante, nonché il conseguente atteggiamento critico nei confronti del mondo che viene assunto nella maggior parte dei testi.
Nel luglio del 2011 gli IATO entrano in studio per incidere il primo EP, “Marchio di fabbrica”, che viene pubblicato nel dicembre del 2011 e nel giro di qualche mese vengono organizzate varie date, in varie zone della Sardegna, per promuovere il nuovo EP e per farsi conoscere nei vari circuiti underground. Nel settembre del 2012 Giuseppe decide di abbandonare il gruppo per impegni universitari e sarà prontamente sostituito da Andrea Manis, caro amico di Federico ed assiduo frequentatore dei concerti degli IATO.
L'ingresso di Andrea nel gruppo porterà un ulteriore rinnovamento musicale, dovuto specialmente alle sue eterogenee influenze musicali, che spaziano dall’hardcore al black metal. La sua integrazione all’interno del gruppo è veloce ed immediata e da Ottobre 2012 l’attività live si fa sempre più intensa. Il 2013 si apre all’insegna della ferrea volontà di uscire fuori dal contesto sardo e organizzare qualche data fuori dall’isola. A maggio riescono, infatti, ad organizzare due date: la prima a Padova con Attrito e Hobos e la seconda a Prato con gli Straight Opposition. Nei mesi successivi il gruppo si dedica soprattutto al perfezionamento dei pezzi in vista del nuovo EP “Dialektik”, che a livello compositivo risente maggiormente, rispetto a “Marchio di fabbrica”, delle influenze death-metal di gruppi quali Nile, Dying Fetus, Death e altri.
Nel gennaio del 2014 arriva la prima grande soddisfazione: al “Cueva Rock” di Quartucciu (CA) si esibiscono infatti i Cripple Bastards e gli Iato vengono scelti come uno dei tre gruppi spalla. Ma gennaio è anche il mese in cui vengono poste concretamente le basi del nuovo EP. L’attività live prosegue, parallelamente alle sessioni di registrazione, con la solita costanza, ma gli sforzi e le risorse, umane ed economiche, sono tutte focalizzate su “Dialektik”. Nonostante ciò, a giugno, il gruppo riesce a togliersi un’altra grandissima soddisfazione: il 19 luglio, a Cagliari, è in programma una data degli Obituary e gli Iato vengono selezionati tra i gruppi spalla. Per quanto riguarda l’EP, terminato il mixaggio, il lavoro viene inviato ad Ettore Rigotti per la fase finale di mastering, che verrà ultimata, con la grande soddisfazione del gruppo, a metà luglio.
Dalla seconda metà del 2015 si occupano della stesura dei nuovi pezzi che andranno a costituire il nuovo lavoro e a ottobre aprono il live di un'altra delle band storiche del metal: i necrodeath.

The band IATO was formed in the summer of 2011 from Ejaculazione’s ashes in Quartu Sant’Elena.

While still maintaining the same members, Lorenzo Balia (drums), Giuseppe Piga (bass), Federico Pisano(guitar) and Francesco Nano (vocals and second guitar), the musical concept and the philosophy behind the band completely changed. From a mixture between hardcore and punk with Italian influences , the new band now focuses on extreme metal. Reasons behind the band renaming were mainly due to this musical development; IATO stands for fracture, distance, a new way of making music with the same people involved.
Moreover, the name IATO conveys the sense of distance felt by the band towards the surrounding context and a critical approach towards the world.
In July 2011 IATO produced their first EP “Marchio di fabbrica” which was released in December 2011 and promoted around Sardinia a few months later in order to join the local music underground community.
In September Giuseppe decided to leave the rest of the band for personal and academic reasons and he is quickly replaced by Andrea Manis , Federico’s old friend and regular presence at IATO’s concerts.

This new addition to the group led to a further musical renewal, especially due to Andrea’s heterogeneous influences, going from hardcore to black metal. His integration within the band is immediate. In 2013, the band aims to widen its audience to a national level and to tour in the mainland. Eventually, in May, they managed to organise two dates: firstly in Padova with Attrito and Hobos and then in Prato with Straight Opposition. In the meantime, the band works on the ultimate details of their new EP ‘Dialektik’. ‘Dialektik’ results in a work more heavily influenced by death metal bands -such as Nile, Dying Fetus and Death- than ‘Marchio di Fabbrica’. 2014 kicks off with a great achievement for IATO: in January Cripple Bastards came to Sardinia (‘ Cueva Rock’ in Quartucciu), and IATO has been chosen as one of the three supporting groups.
In the meantime, the band started working on the new EP. Live performances continued along with the production of the new EP. However, all the economic and human resources and artistic efforts are focused on ‘Dialektik’. In June, the band achieved another important goal: Supporting the ‘Obituary’ in Cagliari on the 19th of July. After mixing, the new EP is sent to Ettore Rigotti (the metal-house) for the final mastering phase that would be completed, with a great sense of achievement by the group, in mid-July.
