About Lisa Cerbone

Lisa Cerbone
Singer-songwriter Lisa Cerbone returns with her sixth studio album, Nowhere I Have Ever Been,
an intimate indie-folk record exploring love, memory, and belonging.
Songs on Nowhere I Have Ever Been draw from lived memory and inherited stories. “Pretend Like You Belong” recalls childhood day trips spent sneaking into vacation resorts when money was scarce, capturing both longing and joy. “What Country Are We In?” reflects on a late-in-life love affair, tender and disorienting in its emotional terrain. “The Missing Year” was inspired by Cerbone’s grandmother, who lost her mother at a young age, leaving an absence that echoes through the song. The album also includes an intimate cover of Electric Light Orchestra’s “Can’t Get It Out of My Head,” reimagined through Cerbone’s restrained, atmospheric lens.
Known for her poetic lyrics, hushed vocals, and intricate fingerstyle guitar playing, Cerbone has
built a body of work that balances emotional restraint with quiet depth. Influenced by artists such
as Joni Mitchell, Elliott Smith, and Jason Molina, her music leans into sparse arrangements,
close-mic’d vocals, and subtle textures that draw the listener inward.
Produced in collaboration with longtime producer Mark Kozelek (Red House Painters, Sun Kil
Moon), Nowhere I Have Ever Been follows her acclaimed album We Still Have Sky and
continues her evolution as a reflective and evocative songwriter. As Paul McGee of Lonesome
Highway wrote, “This is a superb album with so much to recommend to the discerning listener.
Such wonderful artistry, delivered with both grace and equanimity.”
Cerbone lives in Maryland, where she teaches English as a Second Language.
