About Midas Bison

"Young Madison producer/singer Sidney Johnson, aka Midas Bison, creates congenial electronic pop topped with sometimes melodic and sometimes just frantic vocal outpourings (there’s a bit of a Why?/Doseone debt in the latter). His 2013 EP ‘Wavey Daze’ uses aquatic tropes like oceans, tide pools, and lighthouses to lay out a charmingly neurotic persona that for all its incorrigible weirdness feels vulnerable and sincere.” - Arts Extract Sidney Johnson, aka Midas Bison is a pop experimentalist from Madison, WI. Coming from a musical background as well as a life of theater and arts, Midas began composing electronic music in his parents house in Spring 2012. The process began and continues on the internet. Midas released EPs “Flora,” “Wizard” and “XL” in rapid succession via Soundcloud and Bandcamp - all sounds were made using Propellerhead audio production platform Reason 6 and a stage vocal mic. These were followed up by “Flamingos EP” and “Wavey Daze” in 2013, along with a slew of other singles and DJ mixes. “Wavey Daze” garnered the award for “Best Electronic Album” at the 2014 Madison Area Music Awards, an ongoing local awards show that raises charity funds for music in schools. Midas Bison began performing live in 2012 and has played out in Madison at an increasing rate. He has opened for nationally touring acts such as Maps & Atlases, Chad Valley, Ghost Beach and Mutts, as well as alongside local talents Annabel Lee, Chants, Modern Mod, Joey Broyles, Null Device, Gabe Burdulis, Sepluv, The Dark Clan, Leet Moteef and Mitch Gundrum. Midas has also played in Portland, OR as part of PSU's "Live at Lunch" music series. The music itself embraces and defies genre. By combining familiar elements of pop music with experimental sounds and abstract lyrics, Midas creates a style that is pleasantly irregular. Midas Bison intends on releasing a new record by the end of this year and relocating to spread the golden word to all. [ESC]
