About Desario
Jim Rivas and John Conley began Desario as a side project in early 2004. Drawing from their experience in local bands of yesteryear, including Holiday Flyer, California Oranges and Rocketship, Rivas (drums) and Conley (vocals/guitar) recruited Michael Yoas (guitar) and Mike Carr (bass) to create the coolest Sacramento band you may have never heard.
Desario’s sound is reminiscent of ‘90s Britpop and shoegaze, two styles that have long inspired the musicians. More suited to a dark, cavernous club than a raging party, the songs are at once intimate and lonely but always highly melodic and layered.
The band’s first album, Zero Point Zero, was released in 2009 on Darla Records. A second album, Mixer (Test Pattern Records, 2012), revealed a more consistent sound and earned Desario a Sammie nomination in the Indie category. The band hopes to carry this musical maturity into its third album, expected soon. Look for a more stripped-down, simplified production.
- Elizabeth Marxen, Sacramento Magazine, January 2013
In 2013, Desario welcomed new drummer, Kirklyn Cox, to the band. Cox's former bands include Crushstory and Service Group.
