Tammy Jones-Robinette

You might recognize her name. You might even recognize her distinct and lush alto voice that has already earned countless awards and fans worldwide.

Tammy Jones Robinette has made quite a name for herself in Southern Gospel, but like every true Creative, she has learned to trust her muse and fearlessly follows where it leads—it has served her well.

Tammy Jones Robinette grew up Middlesboro, Kentucky, smack dab in the heart of the Bluegrass and Bible belt, giving rise to her two greatest passions, faith and music. Her father played mandolin and was a huge Bluegrass fan and her mother played guitar but was partial to Country music. During her formative years, her home was filled with the music of Bill Monroe, Lester Flatts & Earl Scruggs, Jim & Jesse, as well as Loretta Lynn, Tammy Wynette and Connie Smith. Tammy’s musical prowess was immediately evident, and by the age of eight, she was singing with them regularly, performing Southern Gospel music at area revivals, church services and radio programs across Ohio and Kentucky.

It wasn’t long before she and her three siblings decided to leave the nest and branch out on their own as The Jones Family, signing with the Eddie Crook Company in Nashville. While there, Tammy’s songwriting caught the attention of several nationally known groups. The Perrys recorded “There Has Never Been,” which hit the Top-10 on the “Singing News” chart. The Bishops cut “I’ll Live Again,” which resulted in Tammy’s first #1 hit as a songwriter. She also had cuts by The Perry Sisters, The Telestials, The Paynes and The Singing Cookes, just to name a few.
In the 90’s, after twelve successful years, The Jones Family disbanded providing the opportunity to Tammy to strike out on her own solo career and build upon her success as a songwriter. Since that time, Tammy has recorded 13 albums, charting over two-dozen songs and building an impressive catalog of original material. She also began hosting her own radio show featuring Southern Gospel and Bluegrass music on WLRD 96.9FM, “The Southern Celebration,” which is now syndicated in 52 markets. In 2014, Tammy celebrated two back-to-back #1s with “Beautiful Day” and “You Don’t Love Him Like I Do” and was named “Favorite Female Vocalist” at the 2015 Gospel Music Fan Awards presented by “Christian Voice” magazine.

Despite her achievements, Tammy’s muse continued to demand that she honor her bluegrass roots. So, she began work on an acoustic project, Let It Shine, enlisting the help of Bluegrass producer/versatile master bass player and longtime friend Mark Fain. Produced by Fain and released in 2014 on her own label, Little Creek Records, Let it Shine was warmly embraced by both Bluegrass and Gospel critics, earning three entries for consideration in the initial nomination process by the IBMA.

“Because of my raising, both Gospel and Bluegrass have always been a huge love for me, and in my mind, they go together sort of like peanut butter and jelly,” laughs Tammy. “Separate from one another, they are quite wonderful on their own, but together, mmmm…. they can be supremely delicious!” she explains. “When I started looking at it, I realized there were many Bluegrass artists that perform Gospel music, but relatively few Gospel artists have done the reverse, so I decided to trust my instincts and go for it. I’m so glad I did.”

With that initial validation, Tammy Jones Robinette is now more confident than ever and is ready to release her second Bluegrass Gospel album, coming out this fall.
