For some reason, I thought Melvins were headlining this show so I was surprised to see that they were opening for Napalm Death. This is probably the 8th or 9th show I've seen them at the Paradise over the years. Let's just say that the place was jam fucking packed for Melvins... and it thinned out a bit for Napalm Death to the point we penetrated into the GA section (impossible while Melvins were on). Napalm still had a large energetic crowd however. Melvins had an excellent set list with great newer material to open the show and finished strong with select picks from classic albums over the years. (Your Blessened to close the show was a dream come true for me). Two drummers adds so much power to their sound, and they were all having fun up there. Paradise - put them on the fucking wall please already.

I first saw Melvins in 93 open for Rush and then again in 93 open for Primus. I have seen them countless times since. I saw them with the Big Business drummer when they did a show with Flipper, Krist Novoselic on bass, and Mudhoney. That was a sick show. This show was similar with the two drummers. Melvins just keep getting better, great set. I videoed the whole show. I got to go through it to remember the set list. I remember Your Blessened off Bullhead, I think that was the last song.

They killed as always. Love seeing them coming back to The Pyramid Scheme. Boris actually closed the show and it was a bucket list shot to see them play together finally and a first time for me seeing Boris. Melvins played the majority of Bullhead but threw in classics like A History.... and Honey Bucket, closing with Boris. Boris played their Heavy Rocks album and a few others closing with Boris as well. Mr. Phyllz opened. This being The Melvins 40th ann'y I am curious if this tour withBoris means it may be then but I have a hard time fathoming Osbourne wanting to stop.

About Melvins

The Melvins are one of modern music’s most influential bands. Having formed in 1983 in Montesano, Washington, the group founded by singer/guitar player Buzz Osborne (with stalwart drummer Dale Crover joining the following year), has been credited with merging the worlds of punk rock and heavy music, forming a new subgenre all its own. Over the band’s 40-year history, they’ve released 30-plus original albums, numerous live full-lengths and far too many to count singles and rarities. In the course of their discography, they've partnered with Jello Biafra, Mudhoney, and Fantômas for individual releases and toured the world many times over. In fact, the band had the misfortune to be in both Christchurch and Tokyo for their 2011 earthquakes. In 2012, the Melvins completed the “51 States in 51 Days” (50 states +DC) tour, which was chronicled in the film “Across The USA in 51 Days.” The current incarnation of the band is Osborne, Crover, and Steven McDonald (Redd Kross/OFF!). Previous line-ups include a pairing of Osborne and Crover with Big Business band members Jared Warren and Coady Willis, a four-piece featuring the current trio plus Butthole Surfers’ Jeff Pinkus, as well as Melvins Lite, which partners Osborne and Crover with Mr. Bungle’s Trevor Dunn. Sometimes, if you’re extra lucky, one version of the Melvins will open for the Melvins.
