8-Bit Culprit

8-BIT-CULPRIT is the House/Techno project of Faraz Ehsan from Kolkata, India. Faraz started DJing professionally at the age of 15 and landed his first job in 2008 at a local nightclub. He has drawn a lot of inspiration from artists such as Sphongle, Perfect Stranger, Trentemoller, Modeselektor to name a few, that spearheaded his early experiments with cutting edge underground music. In 2010, he moved to Bangalore and finished his Audio Engineering course from SAE. In the decade since his foray into music, 8 BIT’s shared the soundstage with some renowned acts such as James Harcourt, SLAM, Benjamin Damage, Weekend Heroes, Breger amongst others. 2014 also saw him share a festival stage with other artists for the Go:Madras Electronic Music Festival, Chennai & CTRL ALT DANCE, Goa.



Music Production came into play 5 years ago, where Faraz wanted to create his own tunes with the inspiration drawn from the artists he follows which led to the creation of ‘Space Techno’ coupled with a lot of depth and hypnotism. 2016, saw his first release ‘Slugger’ with Dharmalogy on Soupherb Records. His passion and hard work spending days on end in the studio has resulted in a few more releases in the pipeline for the latter half of the year.



Having a very simple take on music, Faraz sticks to the ‘less is more’ strategy and implements the same while writing his music. Following a no genre bias when it comes to intelligent underground music, his vision lies in telling a story. Each performance set or track being produced fits in the moment with his state of being making music the crux of sharing his emotions with his audience. He strongly believes that progression is key, the story of his music should have a start and end point. His sets usually compromise a deep, dark, melancholic atmosphere with the hope of taking people on an unforgettable journey. The next step in his career is to move to a complete live set with purely his own music productions. Off late, he has been playing a semi-live set with some humbling feedback from music enthusiasts and people driving the scene in India. Definitely a hidden gem, 8-BIT-CULPRIT is a valuable asset to the growing Indian electronic music culture.
