About The Hugs
New album "True To Your Own Spirit" by The Hugs out now (6/3/2022) everywhere!

"If Brit-pop and the Pacific Northwest made sweet, dirty love, you’d get The Hugs. Their angsty, get-off-your-ass-and-dance sound is cut with a dose of nostalgic indie and garage rock that only comes as a product of slightly off-centered creative types and too many consecutive days of rain.

Based out of Portland, OR, this spunky trio unleashes their catchy hooks and off-the-wall energy in every live performance— smiling, dancing, and getting down with their sound is a given.

Whether they’re opening for bands like The Kooks or The Dandy Warhols or headlining house shows, fans love The Hugs for their British Invasion-esque rebelliousness and psychedelic pop roots.

"On "Love You to Death", the Hugs are masters of synthesis who know how to push all the right buttons at all the right times. When your songwriting and production are as airtight as they are here, reinventing the wheel takes a backseat"

"The '90s alt-rock radio anthem "Can't Behave" recalls the brief window of time when Oasis, Blur and pre-OK Computer Radiohead jockeyed for airwave dominance. But the hugs shows restraint by dialing back the feedback and aggression for the jittery balladry of "Who Loved You" that follows."

"Frontman Danny Delegato is the Guns N' Roses-era caricature, his oversized sleeveless shirt and cowboy hat dwarfing his boyish frame. When asked to check his mic, he lets out a howl that dovetails into a squeal.

Despite the band members' extreme marketability, the Hugs' live set is hectic and loose, with songs losing structure and Delegato's vocals disintegrating into Mark E. Smith rambles or Paul Westerberg screams (though I'd forgive him for not catching either reference). "

- Willamette Week

"Feelings of Life", released under the Hugs tag, is a bizarre and indelible marriage of Revolver-era psychedelia and radio-friendly, Prius ad-pop."

- Portland Mercury

"The Lovechild of Noel Fielding and one of the Monkees"

- NME

"The Hugs are a four-piece rock ’n’ roll band (Brainchild of Danny Delegato) from Portland, Oregon, who recorded their debut album in England. This makes sense because their music sounds British—not “Greensleeves” British, but rather the brand of British that became popular when groups like The Kinks and The Yardbirds invaded America in the mid-’60s with their ramshackle lyrics and bluesy riffs."
