About Tim Arnold
Tim Arnold – Bio 2021
Singer songwriter, film-maker, composer, social activist and founder of Save Soho.
In recognition of his constant change of musical direction, Iggy Pop noted in an interview with NME that Tim’s music reminded him of David Bowie. Tim scored music for Iggy’s film, Blood Orange, featuring the theme song, “Money Kills Love.” Tim is also the last artist to collaborate with Bowie and Kate Bush mentor, Lindsay Kemp. Their 2018 video single and live arts installation ‘What Love Would Want’ was inspired by the United Nations’ ‘He for She’ campaign for gender equality and has since sparked a movement for social and human rights in Europe and North America. Tim is an active and vocal LGBTQIA+ ally.
Tim is widely recognised as the first songwriter to write and release a concept album about London’s Soho district, 2015’s The Soho Hobo (BBC London Album of The Year). The project led him to create ‘Save Soho’ – a coalition of performers including Stephen Fry and Benedict Cumberbatch, that campaign for Soho’s historic role as a national platform for the performing arts. He saved iconic music venue Madame Jojo’s in 2015.
The youngest composer ever to be commissioned by Shakespeare’s Globe at the age of 23, Tim’s career has taken him through a journey of rock, pop, neo-classical, experimental and evocative songwriting on 23 albums that have premiered in self-produced stage shows at The Roundhouse, Almeida Theatre, Soho Theatre, Canadian Music Week, Latitude Festival and many more.
As founder of Save Soho, Tim’s work as an activist has often fused with his creations and is widely documented across many projects he conceives to campaign for social justice, diversity and equality.
Tim performs and speaks internationally gracing major stages, institutions and festivals and is an ambassador for mental health organization The Creative Well. He also mentors young music creators. Tim began his career as frontman and songwriter of 90’s Britpop band Jocasta.
"An animated and fascinating front-man..." Classic Rock Magazine
"Tim's haunting and compelling, it'll be fascinating to hear what he does next.” NME
“John Peel would have loved this album” The Guardian
“The concept album Ray Davies never wrote about Soho” Daily Express
“Possessing a beautiful voice and if you’re looking for references then try Muse, Radiohead, Jeff Buckley and The Beatles” Rocksound
“A 21st century hymn for sexuality, gender & racial equality.” Peter Tatchell
“A moving portrait of love and diversity” Stephen Fry
“The effect is like listening to a soundtrack album and realising with shock that it is the soundtrack to your own life.” Author John Higgs
