About Zona Cero

It was a small and dirty room behind the drummer’s house where we use to get together when we first started. At the beginning it was Camilo Suescun (guitar), Oscar de Castro (drums) & Francisco Gallo (bass) the ones in charge of creating the band. Time passed by and we already had a couple of songs. We always had in mind that this band needed our personal label, something that could identify us very quickly. It has always been our priority, and beyond the inconveniences that we were having, we managed to be consistent with our objective. Having a person that dedicated his talent to vocals only was something we had very clear since we had started the band. By this time, Camilo had decided not play guitar anymore to be the one in charge of the vocals. This made us look for a guitar player, someone that could create heavy and melodic riffs but not limited to give some support on vocals. Our search was over when we contacted Carlos Cataño, bass player from the renowned Hard-core band from Bogota - Colombia “Ataque en Contra”. As a result of this awesome combination, we created “Reacción”. and then three more songs that we’re released in 2000 by Dirección Positiva Records: Mi Esencia, Verde and Tormenta which had a lot of NYHC influences. These four songs were included in the “NYC Bogota Threat” with bands from New York and Exigencia from Bogota. Ataque en Contra was an important aspect in the development of our band; they shared part of their set in the Earth Crisis show so we could play our first gig, what a better beginning than that? We started playing in Bogota very often, and other cities in Colombia, especially in Medellin. We really liked this city; it was always a challenge for us to be accepted in a scene like the one in Medellin (100 % Punk Rock). It was complicated at the beginning, our first shows weren’t that successful, but we kept playing there and we started to get the acceptance of the crowd; after all, Medellin is one of our favorite cities to play at. As time passed by, we weren’t getting involved in musical tendencies. We were letting behind the old-school hard-core sounds without forgetting our musical background and influences. Even though we continued to play in the same scene from the beginning, the crowd still supported us with our changes and new sounds. This was our main reason why we decided to slightly change our music and lyrics, making them more introspective and at the same time more melodic, without forgetting the aggressiveness and heaviness of Hard-core. The result of this change, “Cero Sentido”, a song that we value very much and it wouldn’t be the same without the help of our new bass player Rodrigo Mariño who gave fresh ideas to the project besides his creativity and enthusiasm. Rodrigo gave Zona Cero a new way of seeing music; he brought seriousness and security to our band to confront the compromises and challenges that would become. Our interest and dedication started to rise as things were giving a positive direction towards the band. We started practicing continuously and more intensively as we became very good colleagues. We became a solid group when our mentality became more professional and we started thinking of our future as musicians. We contemplated the possibility of a fifth member due to having only one guitar player; we thought it would’ve been more productive to have electronic sounds that could support our music and adapt to our style. We needed someone that not only had the experience but someone that could compromise himself to the band like we all did. After many failed tryouts, we realized that our fifth member didn’t need experience but we needed someone that knew our band already and was ready to compromise himself to the band. We stopped our search and we tried to encourage our friend David Rugeles to gain interest in our band since we were more interested in his friendship than his experience as a DJ. Now his an active member of Zona Cero just l Now in 2011 we released our new album CRUZANDO EL UNIVERSO Discography Momentos Fugaces 2005 Cruzando el Universo 2011 Contacto:(571) 300 5705175 Bogotá Colombia
