Great night with Jarvis et al 🤟❤️

I finally got to see Pulp!! They didn’t disappoint. They were amazing and Jarvis is a national treasure. I left on a high.

The best concert of my life, Jarvis is a true Divo and a great showman. But the support… boring AF, I almost killed myself…

Amazing gig. Jarvis Cocker promised a show we were never gonna forget and they fully delivered.

Been a few years since Thetford Forest when I last saw Pulp. But was transported to a special place when they performed. Very polished, but still a connection with the common audience. Loved every song as they are the soundtrack to my youth. Stage effects were great and Jarvis didnt hide away behind noise, but stayed the front man and sung like it was the last time they'd perform. Great stuff.

Great gig… we’ll over-priced for drinks though..

Pulp has long carried a reputation for being one of the best live bands, and there have been a few sporadic reunion performances over the years since they downed instruments back in 2001. Their announcement last year of another reunion sent me scurrying to secure tickets, even though prices were considerably higher than I would normally pay for a gig. It was worth every penny. Frontman Jarvis Cocker led his band through a two hour set that mixed their classic pop anthems with some of their more quirky, lesser known songs. After a teasing opening session of visuals on the big screens, the curtains parted as Pulp broke into the first song ‘I Spy’, immediately followed by ‘Disco 2000’ to get the packed arena bouncing. With an occasional pause while Jarvis chatted to the audience, telling a little story to set up the next song or teasing the locals with his attempts to speak Welsh, the band ripped through a two hour set of 19 songs. It kept its showstopper ‘Common People’ to number 16 on the list, at the end of the first encore (“Is there a song that we’ve missed?” asked Jarvis). As some people drifted away after that, thinking the show over, Pulp returned to run through a further trio of less well-known numbers, confident that it had its audience heated up enough to stay with them. The sound needed to be big and deep to fill the arena, and there was a hard working string section backing the seven piece band. The balance was just about right, if there was a faint reverb on the vocals. The light show and back screen visuals complemented each song without distracting too much from the performers, and the big screens to the sides of the stage enabled those of us at the back to see the band in detail. I have been attending live music gigs for all of 55 years now and this show was one of the most outstanding that I’ve seen in that time. Pulp don’t disappoint, and their reputation is deserved, even after more that 20 years since their last album release. A final word, on the support act. Baxter Dury strutted the stage, swore and shouted a lot, and spent most of the time strutting and posing whilst removing jacket and shirt and occasionally putting them back on. From time to time he spat out some words over the monotonous, if rather hypnotic, backing that his three piece band laid down, all drums, bass and synths. The female keyboard player could actually sing and one or two songs could have been quite interesting without Baxter’s tirades, although each number was indistinguishable from the next. Baxter ain’t no Ian Dury. Slightly embarrassing, if rather comical.

Pulp were amazing, but the acoustics were absolutely shocking.

Pulp were awesome!! Jarvis still has the same energy he had 30 years ago. Getting out of Finsbury Park sucked!! Guiding 45,000 people through one small exit is not acceptable!!

Pulp were fantastic! However as usual the organisation in Finsbury park not so. The queues in the main arena for bars and food were by all accounts hours long. I had a vip ticket so lucky in that respect, I could use bars that were well managed, however the ticket was very expensive. The food in the vip area was a bit poor considering what I did pay. Not much variety and long queues. Leaving the arena at the end was again dangerous. Only one exit available for most the crowd of 45000 in the entire park. Hyde Park can do well, why not Finsbury Park?

Unreal bais. I hope Richard Hawley enjoyed his walkers cheese and onion before he got on the plane. Tayto would blow his mind. RIP the wee pigeon xx
