Liz Larin’s new album The Expedition (2021) is musical time travel combining infectious grooves, stirring prose-like lyrics, with soaring vocals and guitar. As an award-winning musician, composer, and multimedia artist, Liz Larin’s musical style flows easily between electro-pop and world beat, dance-pop. HISTORY Detroit raised restless nomad, Liz Larin began writing music, singing, and playing guitar at age 10, going on to learn as many string-based instruments she could. Coming up in a heavy jazz, funk, and R&B scene, feeling the birth of Detroit Techno, she began performing in Detroit area clubs at age 16, building a notable following. Her first break was a signing to Atlantic Records with her then band Rebel Heels (Press) in 1987, after a show attended by label president Doug Morris. After recording the first album in England with legendary producer Rupert Hine (The Fixx & Rush), One By One by One (1989), Larin was encouraged to create her first worldwide solo project for Atlantic called Test Your Faith (1993) with a steady hand from producer Ben Gross (Depeche Mode.) While living in Los Angeles she channeled her musical energies into recording tracks with producer Scott Spock (The Matrix) and guitarist Randy Jacobs (Was, Not Was & Bone Shakers.) Releasing this music as Merry Wicked (2000) upon her return to Detroit, this prolific producer and writer has continued to grow her own imprint, Bona Dea Music, into a large, eclectic, and highly curated catalogue.
When returning to her Detroit roots with renewed spirit, she created the multi-award winning The Story of O-Miz (2005) with some of Detroit's top musicians, which brazenly explores subjects such as sexuality and spirituality from a strong woman's point of view. She followed up with Wake Up, Start Dreaming (2012) poetically exploring the power of dreams and the unconscious mind. Liz Larin then released Hurricane (2014) Good Human (2018) and The Expedition (2021) with lyrics as prose set to electro-pop grooves and soaring ballads, with ambient textures and world rhythms. Other recording projects fall under names Stella 13, Luster Kraft, Hope Bridge and the heavily streamed Arcello Focus.
TODAY Often compared to powerful recording artists such as Sia, Lorde, Lana Del Rey, KT Tunstall, Annie Lennox, St. Vincent, Imogen Heap, and Bjork, Liz Larin stands out with her own vocal driven, innovative, and groove-heavy performances accompanied by her own video-art projections. As a music producer, traveler, and filmmaker who has flourished in control of her creative works and environment, she's expanded her audience by placing music with film and television, while composing orchestral and electronic music for films. Her music can be heard on the Lifetime and Disney channels, as well as Netflix.
