Astronaut Jones

Astronaut Jones began in Summer 2013 as a collaboration between Max Kuzmyak and Satya Thallam. Having played together in various funk, jam, rock and jazz groups in the DC area for years, they had been tossing around the idea of a new project building on electronic pioneers Bonobo, Zero 7, and local faves Thievery Corporation. This new project would need to exploit their love of classic R&B and groove bands and mix it with modern electronic environments. Above all else, it would emphasize live performance and exploit the founders' facility with various instruments. Electronic foundations meet real life musicality. Astronaut Jones productions and live performances consist of a spontaneous ordering of saxophone, trumpet, flugelhorn, Rhodes, synths, samples, guitar, electric bass, vocals, and percussion all layered over programmed grooves and effects.
