About Cortney Dixon
‘I can't get enough of Cortney Dixon 'Stop This Party'... I really, really like this track. It's got hints of Haim and Wolf Alice. The indie guitar pop I just needed tonight on the show.’ - Gemma Bradley, BBC Radio 1 Introducing.
“I’m getting proper Strokes-y vibes on the guitars on that track. Obviously a future indie anthem and a half!’ - Emily Pilbeam, Tom Robinson’s BBC 6 Music Mixtape
Cortney Dixon, artist, producer and guitarist from South Shields arrived with a bang last summer. Her first four singles received support from Gemma Bradley’s BBC Radio 1 Introducing show, Tom Robinson’s BBC 6 Music Mixtape and BBC Introducing in the NE.
Cortney continues the release momentum with her first single of 2023, Stop This Party released 3rd March. Her songs have been featured on playlists including Spotify’s ‘New Music Friday’, ‘Proper Belters’, ‘Transistor’, ’That Indie Girl’, Apple Music’s ‘New in Pop’ & ‘New in Indie’ and Amazon Music’s ‘Breakthrough UK’ and ‘Best New Bands’. The whirlwind start also saw a sync placement in the last ever episode of ‘Neighbours’.
Cortney's sound draws influences from the likes of PJ Harvey, HAIM and Blondie. It’s alt-pop powered by her love of indie-rock. Big organic beats and distorted guitars showcase her high-flying vocals, with a heady mix of stories about love, angst and growing up in a working-class Northern town. FFO Wet Leg, Wolf Alice, Haim, Black Honey.
Cortney produces all of her imagery with long-time visual collaborator and friend, Rob Irish. With little funds and boundless creativity, they deliver powerful DIY artwork and videography to compete with high budget productions.
A captivating live performer and skilled guitarist, Cortney delivers high-energy, unforgettable shows. She ended 2022 with a sold-out headline Christmas show at Zerox, Newcastle and continues gigging throughout the UK with her three-piece band. Cortney played two packed out gigs during The Great Escape this year followed by a Twisterella / Runway London Showcase at Strongroom, Shoreditch on 24th May.
Cortney has written for the likes of Elkie Brooks and Thai YouTube sensation Zom Marie and collaborated with BRIT Award-winner Jack Garratt, internationally renowned producer Richard Craker (Liam Gallagher, Dagny, Jolin Tsai), Warner Music Asia star Valentina Ploy amongst others. She has a non-exclusive deal for sync promotion with BMG imprint, Fieldhouse Music.
