R&B singer and songwriter Mike B is the newest creative genius to step from behind the pen and into the spotlight. Hailing from Grand Rapids Michigan, Mike B had a traditional upbringing. As the grandson of a Baptist preacher and the son of an Evangelist and Gospel radio DJ, music has always been an intricate part of his life. Mike’s passion for singing became more than a hobby when he joined the group Nu Era after his relocation to Atlanta during high school. Under the guidance of Indie artist and producer D'Maestro, the group gained traffic and ultimately piqued interest from superstars Swizz Beats and Kelly Price. Before they parted ways, the soulful, teen, heartthrobs opened shows for Atlanta’s hip-hop mogul, T.I. and performed locally around the Peach State’s music scene. Mike B continued to pursue his unapologetic love for R&B music by rendering background vocals for Kandi Burruss, Faith Evans and Q.Parker. As he cultivated his craft, he was able to turn his life experiences into musical poetry by working as a songwriter with producers No I.D. (Kanye west), The Corna Boyz (Beyoncé), and Anthony Dent (Destiny's Child). "I've always wanted to make music that would play as a soundtrack to people's’ lives. I think people want to hear songs with Lyrics that they're afraid to say." Although his success with songwriting was prevalent, the success did not spill over into his love life. After many failed attempts of getting over a breakup, Mike B penned the song “Broken Hearted” from his freshman album set to debut in April 2015. "It's not talked about a lot with guys, but we get our hearts broken; we get damaged from past relationships and it's hard to heal. For me, music has always had the ability to transform my mood. I thought that if I wrote about it, put the pain in a record it would give me closure and help me heal.” Mike B has attributed his drive, not to success, but truth telling. His ambition is fueled by his love for R&B music in its pure form. He strives to tell his story through music so that others can be healed and live in the truth that R&B music gives to each listener. "I miss lyrics that had meaning, un-tuned vocals with soul and I miss bridges; REAL bridges with transitions and instrumentation. We need that back in our music.” Mike B is ready to bring rhythm, blues, love, and truth back to music. I've always wanted to make music that would play as a soundtrack to peoples’ lives.
