About The Grinning Man

So you're here to find out about the Grinning Man. What they're all about, who they are, what they sound like, what their shows are like, whether they prefer regular Cap'n Crunch or Peanut Butter Crunch, and so on. No one can blame you for your curiosity, I suppose, but you have to understand my predicament. You see, I want to tell you. I want to shout it from the rooftops. But there's a problem. Even in our modern society, you just can't describe the way a band sounds without making yourself sound unsure. It's just not possible. You can get an app on your touchscreen smartphone that will wirelessly adjust the firmness and incline of your side of the mattress, but even with the best of intentions, as soon as the words “They sound like a mix of...” exit your mouth, you're caught. But I guess I'll give it a shot anyway. After all, that's why you're here, right? Well, to sum it up simply, The Grinning Man is a progressive surf-rock band. If they sound like anybody else, I guess it would be Man Or Astro-Man, but rather than just playing more or less traditional surf music, they embrace their other influences as well. Primarily that means jazz, funk, and a little bit of jam band. However, rather than try to figure out what the hell that all means, thanks to the wonders of the internet, you can go listen here http://www.thegrinningmanband.com. Or go here and watch http://www.thegrinningmanband.com/#!video/cxep Now that all that's out of the way, here's the most important thing to understand about the Grinning Man: these guys are in it for the music. They are musicians' musicians. They are an instrumental band. If you're looking for four chords, short catchy hooks, and requests for Journey, then keep on moving. If, on the other hand, you're intrigued by the idea of a rock band that plays music with some substance to it, not songs so much as actual compositions, then you just may have come to the right place. Oh, and if the last several sentences made you worried that maybe these guys are pretentious a-holes, fear not! The Grinning Man like to have fun on stage. Lots of fun. Just ask them what the name of that last song was and you'll see what I mean Bringin' you progressive instrumental rock. Official website at www.thegrinningmanband.com
