Spooky Kool

Hello! We are Spooky Kool, Your Friend in the Spiritual Age, and we are a Globally recognized, Phoenix-Based band. We write, record, and perform original compositions along with a sample of updated Jazz Standards.
The name, “Spooky Kool” was born in New Orleans, when Gabriel Bey was visiting in 2007 and taken back to Phoenix were the band began its humble beginnings. Ironically, the band manifested in the desert vortex of Arizona, and much like a Phoenix rising from a fire, the band become, Spooky Kool, Your Friend in the Spiritual Age.

The very first performances for Spooky Kool came to the sports lovers in Downtown Phoenix where they could drink and be merry before and/or after a game. The band performed Chants and would Ad Lib music that was created spontaneously with little prep or direction. We began chanting OM at the beginning of every performance, but OM had a different meaning to Spooky Kool. It stood for “Original Music!”

The band is “uniquely” heartfelt as they perform "HEAD BOPPIN' JAZZ." Led by Writer, Composer, and Performer, Gabriel Bey, who has been passionately labeled as Spooky Kool by family, friends, fans, and followers.
Phil Janzen is the band's Co-leader and responsible for the group's recording efforts, beating the drums, and keeping the band abreast of logistical and technical development.

Sandra Bassett is the Vocalist, Pianist, and Musical Director. Her role is to keep us focused on building an award-winning presentation and that we maintain a professional and pleasing sound. Just a sidebar, Sandra has become an International sensation and is doing extensive travel and appearances. We couldn't be happier for her.

Then there is the dexterity and speed of soloist Jack Schaar on Alto Sax.
Rounding off the band is Wayland “Ross” Covington with his unique sound and style on electric bass.

Finally, we want to give a shout out to Benjamin Cortez, a dynamic and inspiring keyboardist and multi-instrumentalist who is making a global name for himself. He’s been essential to our recording efforts. Keep an eye out for him as well.

Seven years would pass since the early beginnings of the band, and presentation as well as personnel would take on a more structured appearance and musical direction. We released our first album, "Spooky Kool (Conversation with God) – The Spirit of Spooky Kool" in March of 2014, and our first music video, “Americans” a single on the album was released soon after.

Spooky Kool finalized and released their second album, "Do You Have the Time," with the release of our single “Til I Met You” placed on digital store shelves on March of 2016. The new album was released November of that same year and the tracks reflect more of our personal experiences in music, life, and time. We’ve released a LIVE recording of our performance at Michael’s at Park Central, which sadly has closed its doors in the winter of 2018. Now we are in 2019 and have begun work on our third album. We played a couple of our new pieces during our Vision and Sound performance at the Peoria Center for the Performing Arts, and our audience shouted that “I Am” should be the title for our working recording project, so we have begun our campaign to brand and release our upcoming album.
It's been 12-years since those humble beginnings and now we are closing in on the release of our next recording effort, "I Am."

We are so excited to offer so many of our musical family, friends, Fans, and followers new music that is sure to raise them out of their seats and dancing in the aisles; or just sitting to ponder life's meaning, our musical compositions and conversations are designed to elevate the spirit and promote joy and happiness.
