However they tackle these feelings, common to us all, by mulling over the fate of some quirky characters found languishing in pop culture’s recycling bin. Though primarily a three piece, Don White - lead vox and guitar, Alfie Pugh - backing vox, keys, bass and percussion, and Ross Gordon - drums, The Madcap Ponderlings often gig with six extra troubadour players. Joe - trombone, Alan - trumpet, Liz - Clarinet, Katharine - Accordion, Hannah - Cello and Rebecca - Violin, Glockenspiel and Theremin! With a trombone slide here and confetti canon there, like caricature artists, The Madcap Ponderlings and their troubadour players comically and anarchically exaggerate music, conjuring the circus, 1920's bachelor pads, icy woodlands, etc with their descriptive melodies and beautifully crafted stage props. 2015 is a big year for The Madcap Ponderlings, with headline bookings at IPO Liverpool (held at the historic Cavern Club), Edinburgh fringe, their local Village fete and twelve other festivals dotted around the country.
