About Kollin Baer
Multi-instrumentalist, singer songwriter Kollin Baer grew up in The Woodlands, TX. Music was a part of him from an early age. He explains, "I remember buying my first stereo off the older kid on the street and listening to the box of cassettes that my dad gave me. Stuff like Steve Miller, early Counting Crows and REM tapes. I always identified with the singers in those records, especially the ones who sang about loss or struggle. The passion was so evident, so palpable. I learned to process tough experiences through writing and music, which has stuck with me for some time." Kollin recorded his first solo album at the age of 21, writing and recording all of the music and instrumentation on his own. After gigging around Texas, he moved to North Carolina to attend graduate school at Duke. His new full length album, "The Woods," is an array of strong americana, folk, and alternative country sounds, with an indie rock influence. The first single "Climb" is an indie pop rock song with layers of ambient guitar and a catchy feel all around. "I think 'Climb' is about hardship. I say 'think' because the meaning changes. The song is in large part about a long distance relationship where two lovers have the rocky mountains between them. The protagonist is keeping the promise he made to his girl about ending the relationship, hence the line "I won't call you tomorrow...but I might give in tonight." Ultimately its a song about a relationship that wasn't built to last, a sort of house of cards. I think everyone has had one, and often times the circumstances contribute to the inevitable demise. There is a naive hope to the tune as well, a hope that the distance doesn't matter, when most times it does." says Kollin. The Woods has been reviewed by several major music review and blog sites including this one, www.eartothegroundmusic.co/.../seven-reasons-to-love-kollin-baer, and is available now on bandcamp, iTunes, and Amazon. Kollin now currently resides in Durham, NC, where he continues to play shows and write music. He has recently finished writing his second full length record, and plans to record that some time this year.
