About Winston McAnuff
Jamaican Reggae legend Winston McAnuff, also known as Electric Dread for his extravagant onstage energy and powerful voice, is part of the glorious hours of Roots Reggae history.
Born in 1957, Winston McAnuff learned to sing from his pastor father who played the accordion at the church in Christiana, his native village in Jamaica.
After putting his career on hold for a few years, he emerged from the shadows in the early 2000s with the French label Makasound. This encounter led to the reissue of his first two albums “Pick Hits To Click” and “What A Man A Deal With” and the release of a compilation “Diary of the Silent Years 1977-2000”.
Winston McAnuff then multiplies collaborations, notably with Camille BazBaz, Java, Fixi, Tom Fire, Inna de Yard, Lindigo, Tiken Jah Fakoly…
His rich and varied career took him from the hills of Jamaica to major international stages, where he captivates audiences around the world with his unique style and his message of peace and unity.
To this day, Winston McAnuff remains the one and only Jamaican artist nominated for the French Victoires de la Musique Awards.
Winston is also the father of Matthew McAnuff, who tragically disappeared after having scored the international hit “Be Careful”.
