About Drew Mayberry

Music has always played a significantly important role in the life of Drew Mayberry. Born into a musically devoted family, Drew’s mother was a music education teacher, his father, was an industry respected Jazz musician known for his ability to make his bass come alive. Together they made it a point to instill in him a respect for the art-form that many could never understand. Drew discovered his passion for singing in middle school. However, it was not until his freshman year of high school, when destiny guided him to his mother’s dust covered guitar case in a corner of his basement that he knew he was meant for something more than he could have imagined. After just a few short months of teaching himself the basics of playing acoustically, he teamed up with a group of friends who shared his enthusiasm for the art of music, and together they formed a Ska band. Their unity as a collective would not last long, and after a short stint together the band was no more. The one universal truth when it comes to change is that something new is always created out of the ruins of something old, and for Drew Mayberry, the path was clearer than ever. Along with a few of the members of his original band, Drew started a new band called “Loss of Innocence.” It was during this time that Drew really began to hone in on his musical direction. He was constantly challenging himself to be his own musician, to look at the scenes around him, and paint his own reflection of them in his music. The band had a nice run together, and it was not until his sophomore year of college that they too decided it was time close the chapter they had written together. It was at this time that Drew decided to take a chance on writing more pop-oriented music and set forth his newest endeavor by forming the band “View From Ida.” During his time with VFI, he played with such bands as Metro Station, Mae, Scary Kids Scaring Kids, and We the Kings. One of his shining moments with VFI came, when during The Vans Warped Tour, he shared the stage with Katy Perry. VFI called it quits in January of 2009. Today Drew can be found belting out acoustic renditions of some of his favorite songs written by such acts as Yellowcard, The Goo Goo Dolls, and Andy Mckee but more importantly a collection of his own original works. Drew is currently a member of Mount Pleasant’s own Dynamic Duo Entertainment and has been toiling away on his up-coming EP, while juggling the responsibilities of being a soon to be college graduate. Drew Mayberry has become a mainstay in the underground music scene. He has performed many shows throughout Mid-Michigan area and made a name for himself on the campuses of Central Michigan University and Ferris State University. His ambition will inspire you, his humbleness with captivate you, and his music will transform you.
