About Shawn Wrangler
Shawn Wrangler, lead and back-up vocals, rhythm guitar. Shawn is a honky-tonk ramblin' man who always has a song in his head, and a whistle on his lips. He is greatly influenced by the music he heard while growing up on his Grandpa's farm in Wilton, California. There, he was introduced to the Bakersfield Sound, and all the traditional country greats from Johnny Horton and Patsy Cline to George Jones and Marty Robbins. It was on that farm that he also became devoted to the Sun Records era of Elvis Presley. Shawn's father gave him a Fender Stratocaster when he was 16. Playing music became his passion. Every spare moment he was not driving a tractor or sleeping, he spent learning to strum along with all his favorites. As a young man Shawn discovered early bluegrass and still claims it as his favorite music to listen to. Shawn is dedicated to keeping the “old” sound alive, and loves to cover all of his classic country heroes, as well as some modern artists like Hank Williams III and Sturgill Simpson.
Shawn has revived the classic art of whistling as the “lead instrument” during instrumental breaks popularized by country legends like Jim Reeves, Hank Snow and Eddy Arnold. He's also brought back rhythmic yodeling in the style of “The Singing Brakeman” Jimmie Rodgers, once an essential part of country music by now a rarity in the emerging era of “twang pop” commercial country.
