About RJ & The James Brown Band

This is the last band James Brown assembled before his death in December of 2006, this group traveled with Mr. Brown for 15 years with some members being with J.B. for as long as 35, 40 years, respectively, if they never played for or with Mr. Brown, you won’t see them in this group, to know this music and how its to be played, is to know James Brown himself, we won’t be doing anything new, what’s the point, the best music has already been recorded. By James Brown, he left us enough to entertain the world for years to come. The band includes, on horns, Hollie Farris, Jeff Watkins, Leroy Harper, Waldo Weathers, Joe Collier, on guitar, Keith Jenkins, Robert Watson, Ronald Laster, Darryel Brown, on Bass, Fred Thomas, Ray Brundrige, on Drums, Robert “Mousey” Thompson, Tony Cook, Percussion, George “Spike” Nealy, on Keyboards, Jerry Poindexter, M.C. Danny Ray, Background Singers, Cynthia Moore, Lisa Rushton, Amy Christian, Sheila Wheat, and how about the lead vocalist, R.J.. R.J. was James Browns choice to keep his band working and performing his music as long as possible, when Mr. Brown didn’t want to rehearse or do sound check, he sent RJ, when doing movies or TV. RJ was the stand in, when doing live shows, RJ was right there next to Mr. Brown because that’s what Mr. Brown wanted him to do. He would often say to RJ, man I got you standing over there because one day your going to have to stand right here (meaning his spot) RJ would reply, Mr. Brown nobody could do that, Mr. Brown would say, you can. RJ has been with Mr. Brown for 40 years, Mr. Brown would say I just took me a job, and he really did, always being there for Mr. Brown, when ever needed, at any hour of any day. The two had more than an employee – employer relationship, they were close until the day Mr. Brown died, RJ can’t escape James Brown, Everyday, and he is reminded of him in some way. Television, Radio, waking down the street, somebody is playing his music. Even in his own home so many photos and personal items lay around that once belonged to James Brown, Cloths, watches, Robes, even his hair comb and bottle of Viagra. So why not get the band back and keep this man’s music alive, we all want this as members of the James Brown Show, when you’ve done what we have for as many years as we have, it’s all we know, so the music is back, right back where it should be. On stage, so people can dance and groove again. When you see RJ and the James Brown Band, Just close your eyes and listen, you will think J.B. is right up there with the band and in a lot of ways he is!!!!
