About The Protesters
THE PROTESTERS are an eight-piece band featuring members from different cultural backgrounds and ages. Their love of reggae has given them a palate create a new sound in this genre. Now with a three-piece horn section, backing vocalists and four-piece rhythm section, lead vocalist, Pat Powell is able to deliver the message with serious conviction.
THE PROTESTERS, having created momentum with their first release are getting even more airplay on 93.7FM Eastside Radio, 2SER FM, FBI radio Sydney and 4ZZZ FM 102.1 Brisbane. Their new album, Postcolonial World, has just been recommend by Cameron Durnsford, Music Director for Melbourne’s 3PBS FM, to the Australian Music Radio Airplay Project (AMRAP) for national distribution to community radio. Also, The Protester’s album launch has been included in the Sydney VIVID festival line up for 2017. Other festival appearances have included PEAK Festival, One Drop Festival, Canberra Reggae Festival and the Marrickville and Surry Hills Festivals.
‘Postcolonial World’ is the second album release for THE PROTESTERS since ‘Soul of the Nation’ in 2014. The album is being officially released on the 27th May to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the 1967 Referendum giving Aboriginal Australians the right to be citizens.
ARIA winning Pat Powell (Melbourne Ska Orchestra) lends his soulful voice to songs of human rights and social injustice. Using the quintessential reggae sound to carry its message forward, this new album, 'Postcolonial World is a rich musical tapestry, weaving classy horn arrangements with a heavy roots reggae rhythm. Also there are four extra dub cuts. This is an independent release through Freedom Street Records and Metropolitan Groove Merchants (MGM).
