About the shak&speares
The Shak & Speares are a folk-rock band formed in November 2010 at Marlowe’s House, a happy hovel buried deep in the Vesuvian countryside. They debuted as the support act for Orange and, a mere two months and a dozen concerts later, graced the main stage of the Neapolis Festival alongside Skunk Anansie, Mogwai and Architecture In Helsinki. Thus began their collaboration with Freak House Records and Happy Mopy Records, leading to the release of GAGSTER (Mirko Iapicca - Artist Producer and Matteo De Marinis - Head Engineer), The Shak & Speares’ first album, recorded at Mono Studio in Milan in partnership with the SAE Institute, mixed by Ercole Longobardi (Polina, 24 Grana, Planet Funk, Nobraino, Bisca, Pennelli di Vermeer) and mastered by Francesco Fontanella. To wet the appetite for their debut-album (21st January 2013), three video-clips were made, all produced by video-maker Michele Pesce, followed by another two hot upon the album’s release. The first of these, “Zoolander”, was given a national preview by webzine Rolling Stone, while the others were premiered by Rockit, La Repubblica XL and FanPage. An intense promotional tour saw them performing in the coolest Italian clubs and as guests on various TV and radio shows and at top-drawer festivals such as the GiffoniFilmFestival, SISLEY Indipendent Tour, Segnali Rock Fest, Neapolis, MilanoFilmFestival, sharing the stage with Dinosaurs Jr, Blonde Redhead, Teatro Degli Orrori, Zen Circus, Management Del Dolore Post-Operatorio, Lo Stato Sociale, La Bandabardò, Vadoinmessico, A Toys Orchestra, Capone & Bungt Bang, Jovine, Amour Fou, The Gentlemen's Agreement, EPO, Bradipos IV and Bisca. The tour was brought to a dazzling close with three London gigs, the first at Soho’s historical 12 BAR CAFE’, followed by the YUCK Indie Club, mecca for the Uxbridge youth scene and, finally, at the legendary Water Rats, supporting Vic Godard and his Subway Sect (with the Sex Pistols’ Paul Cook on drums) who gifted them “a pearl” that the The Shak & Speares have wisely included on their second album, DRAMEDY, out on 30th September 2014. Culi, animi e cactus.
