About Cueshe
Cueshe is a mainstream pop/rock band from Cebu, Philippines who made their way to the shores and radio airwaves of Manila sometime in 2005. Owing their success to their single "Stay", Cueshe was immediately embraced by the mainstream populace and garnered top-charting status in no time, both to their advantage and disadvantage.
Several controversies have arisen about them supposedly plagiarizing songs by other bands for their own, though this has yet to be proven. Most cite that the opening chords of "Stay" are very similar to Simple Plan's "Perfect" and the first two lines of the chorus of the same song are very similar (to the point of being considered a tonal rip-off by some) to Silverchair's "the Greatest View". There have been no legal issues about this, however.
This has caused a wave of negative backlash. In the 2005 NU Rock Awards, the band was booed by the crowd when their name was announced as a nominee for one of the awards. Meanwhile, some Cebuano artists and DJs have reportedly disowned the band as part of the Cebu music scene.
