About Freight

Jimbo Scott and Grover Anderson are two northern California singer/songwriters who have joined forces for this folk-based act. “Freight” honors the famed Freight & Salvage of Berkeley, California, where they met at a 2011 Open Mic.

Jimbo was born in Memphis, Tennessee and raised in Oakland, CA, while Grover grew up in the gold rush town of Murphys, CA. Though their journeys have been very different, both upbringings were steeped in traditions of folk, roots, country, bluegrass and rock. After sampling each others’ music at the open mic, they began holding a weekly jam session, and in time wrote their first song together, “Pick Up Your Horn.” They booked a tour through the western US together in Summer 2014, and while they’d originally intended to play individual sets, they soon found themselves playing extended sets backing each other up. They returned and booked a six-month residency in San Francisco, where they played and experimented for people three hours a week, forging a powerful musical bond.

While they still tour individually, as Freight the two put on a show much greater than the sum of their parts. Joined in a full band setting by Josh Certo and Marshall Henry, as well as Jimbo’s impressive beard, their harmonies and energy are lighting up the Northern California music scene.

Freight’s inaugural EP is available on iTunes, Amazon, Google, Spotify, Square, and just about everywhere else.
