About The Electric Magpie

The Magpie (formerly The Electric Magpie) is an ever-changing whimsical rock outfit who music is reminiscent of the atmosphere and introspectiveness of Pink Floyd and the wittiness and observational pop sensibility of The Kinks. The roots of the band go far deeper than its formation in the San Francisco Bay Area in 2012, as Peter Maffei (vocals, guitar, keys) met Hunter Stroope (guitar, vocals, mellotron) in their 2nd year of elementary school and Sam Faw (bass, vocals, formerly drums) when he was only 10 years old. The rest of the band is constantly evolving, incorporating new friends and old mates alike. There has only been one official album release to date, that being Begins (2014) on Lolipop and Burger Records. The majority of the instrumentation and vocals were recorded by Hunter and Peter, but the album featured a feast of friends, including members of Mystic Braves, Mr. Elevator & The Brain Hotel, Froth and more. Begins is currently on iTunes, Spotify, Amazon, and on vinyl and cassette through Lolipop Records. The Electric Magpie has shared the stage with numerous acts such as White Fence, Roky Erickson, Thee Oh Sees, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Strawberry Alarm Clock, Shannon & The Clams, Vetiver, Dead Meadow, The Blank Tapes, Mystic Braves, Corners, and many many more. A new album is currently being written and recording will commence in the early half of 2016. If you want it, here it is, come and get it.
