Sparhawks

Sparhawks is a post rock quartet that was formed during the Fall of 2011 in Boston, MA. The four men who comprise this band are the closest thing you could call brothers without actually being related. Post rock is a term that loosely defines what they are able to create with instruments in hand. A close listen to the bands current discography reveals hints of math rock, jazz, alternative rock, and experimental rock. Each member of the band brings their own lengthy list of influences to the table during the writing process. The end result creates an undeniably unique and innovative sound that is unparalleled in the realm of post & math rock. In December of 2012 Sparhawks traveled 6 hours north to their “home away from home” to record their first full length album. A cabin on a lake in the desolate and isolated woods of northern Maine. An area so lightly populated that the only thing your ears register once you step out of the car is pure, uncontaminated silence. The band spent a week there writing, tracking, and mixing their record which was appropriately titled “The Cabin”. It was released officially April 12th, 2013. Later in the summer of that same year the band trekked back to the cabin to record two tracks “J.B.H.T.G.G.” and “Mothra”. 2014 proved to be a very successful year for the band. It was a year filled with shows, writing new material, and making lasting connections and friends. In February the band rode down to Philadelphia, PA to Drexel University for a weekend of music. The band received high praise after an unforgettable live performance. Shortly after they were offered a chance to jump into an on-campus recording studio for a day. The tracks recorded there would go on to be released by the band as the “Philly Sessions” in October of 2014. In September of 2015 Sparhawks was chosen as one of the finalists to record at Converse’s Boston RubberTracks studio. The tracks recorded there will go on to comprise the bands next release; a full length album scheduled for early to mid 2016.
