About The New Royales

When different worlds and musical backgrounds of hip-hop/urban, rock and alternative collide, there is a beautiful chaos that happens and that is exactly what created The New Royales – a diverse and multi-talented group, comprised of DJ Khalil, Liz Rodrigues, Chin Injeti and Erik Alcock. Together they are a powerhouse of songwriters, producers, and overall musical group bringing together a range of talents and interests, lending to an eruptive new music collective. Since 2007, the group has worked together behind the scenes, writing and producing for the biggest names in the industry. Tapping into each member’s unique skill set and musical background, they have worked with a range of clients, including Eminem, Pink, Pitbull, 50 Cent and Dr. Dre. As popular and in-demand “behind the scenes” talent, the time is now for the group to take their musical talents to the forefront. “When we all came together, collectively we were a bit bored with what was going on and knew that together we could bring something new to the game,” say The New Royales. "We have a mutual respect for each other, and though we have different musical backgrounds, our vision is aligned in a new train of thought, a new concept and a new feeling with our music.” The Los Angeles born and Grammy-winning producer, DJ Khalil, is responsible for some major music hits over the last decade. When he was growing up, his house was filled with the sounds of John Coltrane, Gary Bartz and Miles Davis, which sparked an early interest for him in music and led him to djing and sampling in his friend’s studio at a young age. In his early year, he formed a group, Self Scientific, with his best friend Chace Infinite and they eventually signed a demo deal with LOUD Records. They ultimately started their own label, which is where he started gaining the attention for his production skills, eventually capturing the attention of Dr Dre, who he signed his first production deal with in 2003. Since then, the industry veteran has produced for some of the biggest names this century, including Eminem, Dr. Dre, Pink, Aloe Blacc, Drake, Jay Z and more. Chin Injeti, a Vancouverite and Grammy-winning producer, was heavily influenced in his younger years by his singer father, which led him to playing bass in a band during high school. His love for music grew from there and he went on to put out several albums with the Juno award winning band, Bass Is Base. His self-described style, “alternative urban”, works within the collective as the glue to bring everyone’s individual styles together and create the group’s innovative sound. Linking up with DJ Khalil in 2007 they have won two Grammys together for their work on Eminem’s “Recovery” album and Lecrae’s “Gravity” album. Outside of the group, Chin is a partner, with Aidan Wright, in a production company/label called The Hastings Set. As the sole female voice in The New Royales, the Toronto native, Liz Rodrigues’ musical style has been influenced from an early age with an eclectic mix of music, including Blondie, Amalia Rodrigues, Michael Jackson, Brazilian and Portuguese music. Crediting music, dance and sports as keeping her focused during her high school years, Liz used music and singing as a creative outlet to get over her stage fright. After discovering her own talent and years of perfecting her craft, she eventually met Chin who complimented her style and the pair got to work writing and recording. The multi-threat singer and songwriter has lent her talents to a range of artists, including Celine Dion, Pitbull, Eminem and Pink. Also a Torontonian, Erik Alcock, rounds out the group with his Rock n’ Roll, Brit-Pop style. Erik was young when he heard the Beatles’ “I Am the Walrus” and realized that girls liked guys who played guitars, so from there he learned to play the guitar, bass, piano, drums and taught himself to sing. While trying to impress the ladies, he discovered his true passion for music and headed on a path towards his musical destiny. Meeting Chin through a mutual friend the two instantly forged a musical bond and started writing as much as possible. Erik’s attention to writing lyrics, melody and playing guitar perfectly compliments the group’s style and lends to their collective spirit from the inception of a single melody to a final mastered track. As a group they came together after Chin played Khalil music from himself, Erik and Liz over the phone and Khalil was immediately into joining forces, they’ve never looked back since that introduction. Together they are credited on multiple albums as songwriters and producers and over the years they have been perfecting their style and catalog as a music group. While The New Royales have individually and collectively worked with a range of artists, they are dedicated to creating a new lane for their vision and the overall unique approach to music creation. Their first project called, Freedom’s for the Brave, a covers album that pays tribute to some of the influencers of their eclectic sound including, Foster Sylvers, The Monks, The Beatles, The White Stripes, and Depeche Mode, was released early 2014 and they are currently working on an album of original material to be released in the near future.
