About Nick Williams

Before relocating to Brighton, Nick Williams studied music prodution in the sleepy city of Bath, allowing him to focus on his sonwriting, combining the feel of early Tom Waits with the harmonic influence of Elliot Smith and Radiohead. It was during this period whilst performing on the Bath/Bristol music scene he caught the attention of Mark Wallis (producer/mixer for Travis, Talking Heads, The Smith, U2). Together they collaborated on early demo material Cold Part of Town EP. After moving to Brighton he quickly began to receive support slots with touring acts such as Willy Mason, Ben Howard, Greg Holden and The Magic Numbers. Wanting to expand his live sound he began working with Lindsey Oliver (the Mummers, Miserable Rich) on double bass, Steve Wattis (Make Good Your Escape) on Drums and Mike Woolley. With all members singing harmonies and with Mike's multi-instrumental skills on board the live show was transformed, allowing Nick to jump between Piano, Mandolin, Guitar and vocal FX units seamlessly. Over the summer of 2012 in various rooms across Brighton the band recorded and self produced their Anniversaries EP. Aiming to keep folk songwriting and lyrics at it's core whilst experimenting with time signatures and multi layered arrangements. “As the piano strikes the final chord you are forced to marvel at how Nick Williams and the band have delicately created such a tight collection of thought-provoking songs; and they've done so whilst steering clear of producing the kind of contrived tearjerkers that many others attempt.” AurallyYours.blogspot.com "Folk gets the radiohead treatment" DV8 magazine “A falsetto Tom Waits, astounding” Pete Jones Radio Reverb "His voice is unusually high and versatile...contrary to his very flamboyant stage persona he is unafraid to lay himself bare when performing his songs...His lyrics are personal and original" Daisy Behagg, Live music scene Brighton Based artist/band. New anniversaries EP out now! listen free at https://soundcloud.com/nickwilliams/sets/anniversaries. Supported Willy Mason, Ben Howard, Greg Holden and The Magic Numbers out on the road and preparing for a huge 2013.
