About Riccardo Grosso
Riccardo is surrounded by music since he can remember and by Blues music even before, being son of an avid Blues and RnB listener and of a hobbist bass player of a teen Rhythm & Blues band.
Riccardo started to play harmonica by self-taught at age of 16, in a small town near Venice called Conegliano, in Italy. There was not so much material available around and it was pre-internet era.
He has been listening to the Blues masters like Sonny Boy Williamson II, Junior Well, Paul Butterfield and got interested in Blues music and what Blues music developed through the years (Rock N Roll, Jazz, Funk, RnB).
Riccardo has hit the stage at age of 18 and started to sing few months before, since then he never stop playing live, and started teaching harmonica and his own project "Riccardo Grosso & RGBand".
He has been living in New Orleans and playing with some top musicians on the scene like Johnny Sansone (6 times Blues awards winner!), John Fhol (guitarist with Dr.John's Lower 911) and sittin' on Charlie Musselwhite's garden to play harmonica allowed Grosso to push even further on carving his own style.
His rough, powerful and baritone vocals along with an open-minded style on the Blues harmonica, took Riccardo to international consideration and appreciation both from listeners and from Blues experts.
Riccardo's harmonica has been recorded outside of Blues music as well, being himself a kind of experimentation oriented musician: you can find Riccardo's playing on Pop music, Experimental Rock/Fusion music, Folk, Ragtime.
"tremendous" - Charlie Musselwhite
"a pro!" - Adam Gussow
"top!" - Roots Time
