About FlunkOut

In september 2011 saxophonist Jeroen Goedhart had the idea to setup a fusion-jazz-rock band and pretty soon FlunkOut began roaming the music scene. At the Jazz-i-Award 2012 finals of the Sea Bottom Jazz Festival in the Netherlands it became clear that this band could appeal to dedicated and fledgling jazz audiences alike. And outside the jazzbox as well.

FlunkOut brings a groovy, laid-back yet spicy musical experience, with balanced elements of jazz, fusion, blues, funk, rock and ballads. Raised with and inspired by the likes of Jeff Lorber, Herbie Hancock, Spyro Gyra and Fourplay, the band brews its unique sound with a mix of jazz covers and new compositions.

Mark Freriks(bass) and Andre Swinkels (drums) had worked in previous projects with Jeroen and provided for a solid but dynamic rhythm section. Paul (Pablo del Combatte) developed his soloing and rhythmic keystrokes to help shape the typical FlunkOut sound-print. In the spring of 2014 the quartet added some virtuosity by attracting guitar-pro Luuk Moelker, who throws in his subtile jazz riffs, funky strums, dirty licks and the occasional summer shred.

FlunkOut, a likable bunch with diverse, complementing personalities, styles and skills, who don't take themselves all to serious, but their mutual respect and inspiration and their shared passion for "Da Groove" ever so much.

In 2015 FlunkOut decided they clocked sufficient live-gigging-miles playing contemporary arrangements of renowned and hidden jazz jewels, to allow for a first studio-recording of their own jointly composed, arranged and groomed FlunkOut repertoire.

Good Sh*t Man is their debut album, the first "shot" so to say and shows FlunkOut's versatile and diverse dedication to the groove. It takes you from funky blues to symphonic jazz, from their earlier released singles (Flunk Out!, Coffee Break) to a flunky arrangement of Barry Gray's "Thunderbirds Theme" (used by permission of Sony/ATV Music Publishing (UK) Limited. All rights reserved.)

The last two songs were recorded with bass player Fagner ten Hove, who than joined the band for live gigs as well. Maurice Gregoire replaced Luuk Moelker, who went to pursue American ventures.

They also welcomed working with internationally acclaimed rhythm-ace Martin Verdonk (o.a. Steve Winwood, Incognito, Santana, Prince, Lionel Richie, Donna Summer, Chaka Khan, James Taylor, Toots Thielemans) to record the percussion part on all songs.

Groovy fun, ready to share. May the Flunk be with you.
