About Robert Grier

Robert Grier played his first paying gig at the Rambo Restaurant in Milford IL in 1967 at the tender age of 13. He decided then and there that the best vantage point to watch inebriated women dance was from the stage. He has since devoted a large part of his degenerate life to watching the circus and doing his best to help drummers create rhythmic patterns that confuse, confound, and generally add to the comic relief of befuddled dancing white people. His pursuit of the bottom end of the syncopated groove led him to Indiana University where in 1976 he graduated with concentration in Anthropology/Ethnomusicology and Jazz Studies, two disciplines that while totally useless in the pursuit of earning a legitimate living do make for lively conversation. Along the way he spent time as a Musicians Union “will call” bass player which led to the dubious footnote of “gigging in every Loyal Order of Moose Lodge” in the upper Midwest. Lately, after having been rejected from most desirable bands and projects in the central Indiana and Nashville TN areas, Robert has settled in Southeast Tennessee and as result of discontinuing the pursuit of folk-medicinal happiness has found a home playing bass and keyboards with several notable bands/projects in the Chattanooga, TN area. This page demos' the music of Robert Grier, A sideman playing bass (upright\electric), keyboards, harps...
