The music was excellent and it was great that the musicians came to this relatively small venue and clearly enjoyed themselves.
The support musicians did their best but frankly were pretty mediocre in this context and appeared to be a very last minute arrangement to fill in time.
We were very frustrated to discover that the tickets said the show was to start at 8.00. In fact the musicians on the ticket started at 9.00. The doors did not open until 8.00 and then an hour ensued of waiting, unadvertised support, another interval…
The tickets should say ‘Doors open at ….’ Not ‘Start at ….’
Unless this is a cynical marketing ploy to get punters to spend more at the bar. In all honesty, I would think twice about visiting this venue again. Which is a shame, because it is pleasant (although the acoustics in the bar are very challenging- it becomes very loud) and it has prestigious guests sometimes.
Please just indicate in future ‘Doors open at…’.

Tough to review this one. Kris Drever is always excellent and I would happily see him live any time. When I bought the tickets, I hadn't spotted that Chris Stout was also playing. Chris is unquestionably a huge talent, but the combination didn't work and his style was a huge distraction from the style of Kris (who I actually paid to see). Pity as I think it also dictated the set list and meant there were tunes which otherwise wouldn't have been played, as well as some tunes which weren't played because they wouldn't have suited Chris. I would have rated 3 due to the distraction and it's impact on the night, but I can't give Kris on 3 stars.

As promoter of this event, every audience member stated what a tremendously professional performance Kris presented and this was one of the best with which I have ever been involved over the past 17 years .

Kris Drever is a Scottish folk singer songwriter, who has won multiple awards including an incredible 7 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, two shortlist nominations for Scottish Album of The Year (with his trio Lau) and much acclaim for his solo recordings and concerts including glowing reviews from The Herald, The Guardian, Mojo and Q Magazine.
His recent single “Scapa Flow 1919” was nominated for Best Original Track by BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards whilst his (John Parish produced) album with Lau, "Midnight and Closedown" was released in 2019 by Reveal Records to wild acclaim including being chosen in The Best Albums of The Year feature by The Guardian.
